Is test match cricket dead?

Have the recent test series's in South Africa and Australia breathed fresh life into test match cricket. Both series have been full of great excitment and knife-edge finishes. Australia's dramatic 2nd innings win over Pakistan was sensational as have all of the tests in the South Africa - England series so far with 2 nailbiting draws featuring final wicket stands. I don't pretend to be a test match purist but am still to be won over by 20/20. I think both these series's have been a great advert for test cricket as a worthy and exciting form of the game and still has a place in the cricketing calendar. It's a shame that the crowd numbers are dwindling but hopefully more series's such as these will help with numbers. What do you think? Are you a 20/20 only fan or do you watch/ follow test cricket too?

If you have assumed that then better change your thought. Because test match has its own charm and it is immortal you can say... test match is the father of all forms of cricket and no one can beat it...

No. I'm certainly coming from the perspective that test match cricket is a great form of the game but I know others are not so sure. Glad to hear that you are..

I believe test match cricket is still alive and very interesting. The impact of T20's growth is on ODIs. ODIs are getting very predictive and boring. Test match cricket is good if the pitches are lively.

i feel t 20 have made test matches more exciting . now we see players scoring at 4 to 5 run rate even in test and that has made test matches more result oriented.

no not at all. test cricket is becoming more popular even in the domestic seasons. the renji trophy final was very enjoyable to watch and mumbai won it by 6 runs. the test match between england and SA was very tight match ,all the crowd creered for each ball,ENG drew it with 1 wicket left. the test between AUS and PAK,everybody thought that pak will win bus aus made it . so quick changes are happening in test cricket also. \its very nice to watch test also. i am eagerly waiting for the test between india and bangladesh..

yes you were right in this that the test matches were on the verge of extinction if we see from the excitement point of view and because of this India was going to play only 2 tests in 6 months. And because of that the suggestions was coming that they will bring day night test matches and were trying to make a pink ball which will be played with. But from these two series the point of view will be changing as there have been finishes and if they are draws then they are nail biting draws with last ball being balled. But if you see it with audience prospective then they will be seeing it in last day as rest of the days it gets boring with excitement in some balls and in 20-20 they have excitement in every ball and ends up in a 3 to 4 hours. If I have to choose in excitement then I will prefer to watch 20-20 more than tests.

Test cricket will do well as long as sporting pitches prepared. If bowlers and batsmen have equal opportunities, then test cricket will be much more interesting than other forms. Certainly, test cricket is better than the ODI format, which is getting really boring. The recently concluded Idea cup tournament featuring India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh is one glaring example. The tournament looked as simple as win the toss and you will win the match. So, may be kill the ODIs and let test cricket flourish. Thanks.
