In our city, I notice that there is a university on the upper floor of the building where the ground floor is also occupied by a mall and several stores. Do you also have situations like this in your areas? What do you think of this?

Yeah, I've seen schools like that here as well. If your the student, then I'm sure you'll definitely appreciate that. And it just depends on the student as well on how their gonna control or discipline themselves in order for them to not be affected by the malls or stores.

Yes thats true, the school should have a major role in this as well. Since they were the ones who choose to be there in the first place.

Hi Donsky, Yes, I think so, too. It behooves upon the student himself whether he would attend classes or spend time in the stores or the mall. It also behooves upon the school administration to remind their students not to be "tempted" in cutting classes in favor of going around the malls. Before deciding to have the school there, the school administration surely have considered on this issue. Because the school is allowed to be there, they should have complied with all government requirements and passed the same.

Oh yes there is, and i think it has disadvantage and there is also advantage. Students can easily get tempted to buy things they dont need once they see some things they like in the mall. On the other hand they can also find fastfoods where they can have cheaper value meals. It only takes discipline on their part whether to spend or not in the mall.

Hi Triplejazzm51, Yes, I agree with you. It behooves on the students themselves to do what is right for their own well being. Students who want to finish their studies know what should and what shouldn't be done. Parents and the school have, in a way, their responsibilities on the students. I personally think they need to monitor their sons/daughters or students for proper guidance and support.

Why not? I believe that the school would have to be for students that at lest college age, though. There is a mall in the nearby city that has a lot of vacancies. The mall manager is trying to recruit small business and professional people to fill the vacancies. A business college would fit right into this idea.

I have never heard of this, but it sounds like a very enterprising venture! I would think maybe the bottom floor with the malls and stores might be beneficial for covering some of the costs. It sounds interesting at least!

Hi Macdingolinger, It surely is very enterprising for the building owners to do that. The owner of the building rents out the spaces below and earns from them. Enterprising indeed! It has its own disadvantages though. Security and focus for the students may be a problem. School administration and parents should join hands in addressing this issue.

I don't think that is a good idea. Students spend more time on these malls then in class. Luckily, we don't have it here. Usually schools, universities are on its own buildings and compound.

Hi Sarinahahmad, Although it is a school for college students, one would think this is not a good idea. I think so, too. I am sure students will be distracted with the stores and other establishments within the building. Instead of maybe spending time in the library to study or do research, they would go to the mall.

No we don't have anything like that here. I guess who ever did it was really trying to conserve space. Though I don't care who you are, but if such a place existed around here nothing would be accomplished. Students would want to spend all their time in the mall section, and not focus on their studies. If that wasn't enough, the constant in and out of people below would make it hard to conduct a class.

Hi Kaylachan, The building owners thought they can conserve space. They thought they can earn too while doing that. Renting out the spaces below the school surely is an enterprising thing to do. Yes, you are right. I am sure some students just spend their time in the stores or mall below. People coming in and out I guess has been properly addressed by the school. They cannot go up the floor where the school is; that area is restricted. School administration and parents should monitor their students.

We don't have that here in the States. School are all separated and in different areas then the malls. I don't really think that is a good idea. I think there would be a problem with security on behalf of the children.

Hi Lilen, Although this is a school for college students, security will also be a problem. It becomes a public place because of the stores there. People have easy access to the building. Aside from that, students might be attracted to spend time in the internet cafes, coffee shops and other stores in the building instead of attending classes. There is also a bigger mall across the street where there are movie houses. I think it is not a good idea to have a school in that place.

No, I've never heard of anything like that here. The closest I can think of it are the shops and coffee shops on campus, but the shops only sell books that you need to study, some fiction and paper, post cards etc. They're quite good book shops actually, but I don't think they would allow a mall on campus.

Hi Torunn, This is a new building that housed both school and a small mall or a group of stores. Although it is not as big as other malls, there are clothes shop, beauty parlors, coffee shops, internet cafe, fast food chain and other small stores. I am not too aware of government education and school regulations but the school must have passed all requirements to be allowed to be there. Across the building is another bigger mall where there are movie houses, grocery store, and lots of bigger stores.
