Possible factors that motivate employees

There a few movivation that could possibly motivate employees from doing their job well or attending their job regulary. It is a fact that Money is the number one motivator, benefits are the others. But let us also consider the other employees who consider other factor rather than money. For some employees a vacation leave is most rewarding factor. May be a good working environment and frienly co workers make them motivated. But what are other ways that could make them motivated?

I am in corporate management and so I had to take the HR class. What I learned there was that if employees are allowed to participate in a meeting for coming up with ideas and suggestions they feel a part of the company. Another one is promotion. Employees should be given the chance to climb the corporate ladder.
