When i was a child, i didn't like to eat cilantro and bean curd, but now i like to eat them. In the past, i liked to eat garlic sprout, one day i am sick and vomited because of i ate garlic sprout, so now i don't like to eat them. Do you think your taste will change with age and environment?

Hi chocalate2010. I'm 57 and I know my taste (or what I like) has changed over the years. I don't think environment has much to do with it. More so, growth. Used to not like strawberry ice cream, or chocolate ice cream. Now they are great to me. When I was much younger, I did not like cottage cheese. Now I enjoy the stuff.

Ah, you meant social environment. Yes, I would agree then. My wife is from Amish-Mennonite background. Learned to eat a couple of new things-- and like them.

as far as i can remember i am like this from childhood up to now. i am not adventurous when it comes to food. i am picky and i only eat a few of the veggies and a few of fruits. har har har infact the only fruits i eat are watermelon, cantaloupe, ripe mangoes and apples. i can only have intakes of fruits if my wife makes it into smoothies. she also minced veggies and mix it with ground pork or beef so i wont see it. i dont think the time has changed my taste what i dont like to eat since i was a child i still dont eat it now. but i guess soon i will be changing that.... doctors orders.

Hi, se7enthbird, thanks for your response. We should adopt the doctor's advice so that we can keep healthy. :)

yes, my taste changes with age. when i was a kid, i didn't eat garlic, tofu, carrots or radish. now i love them. coz i get to know these food are very good for health. for example after i know eating garlic can prevent cancer, now i try to eat it everyday. being picky on food isn't good. so i try to accept all kinds of vegetables and fruit. but still i don't eat cilantro. this doesn't change for years.

Yes, I hated to eat cilantro and celery year ago, cause I didn't like the smell of them. I would rather give up the soup than drink it. But now, I totally accept both of them and I can't tell how it changed. Our taste also can change with the environment, if you stay in the place where all the foods are spicy for a while, you will possibly love it gradually.

I can say that taste does not change with age or environment, but our preferences changes. Sometimes there are food that we dont eat just because our parents does not eat those foods as well. So when time comes that we are adult and we go out and socialize our preferences changes depends to who are we with and who are the people we hang out with.

Tastes change a lot when we get older. We appreciate different things at different ages. Our bodies tend to have different types of food as we are older. There are a number of foods that I enjoyed when I was younger. Now, not so much, I cannot stand them. The same is with a number of foods that I enjoy now, that I would never touch when I was younger. Everything changes with times and our tastes are no different.

I do think so. When I was young, I hated eating bitter gourd. Today, any dish with bitter gourd is a favourite of mine. Perhaps, age and health may be one of the cause of change of food.

Absolutely. I think age plays a large part in determining your tastes because your body changes and begins to cue you as to what you need. For example, I used to hate the taste of water, but would eat salads and other vegetables all of the time. When my environment changed and I no longer ate the same things, I began to crave water and love the taste of it - at times. I hate feeling that craving though because I will drink so much water to quench my thirst that I feel bloated, etc. So I have begun to carry around a bottle of water that I flavor with a powder that contains some antioxidants. And that is just one example. I believe that the current environment as well as the one you grew up in plays a big part in your tastes. Growing up, I would hate it when my mother made pinto beans and cornbread, but in our house, you ate what was cooked for you or you starved. In my adult years, I find myself craving pinto beans and cornbread at times. Great discussion!

As your body changes, so does your taste in things. As we grow and are exposed to new and old things our body changes. This includes tasts. I know as a kid I couldn't stand a lot of foods, and now I do, and the reverse is also true as well. Its all part of being human.

It certainly does, my friend. As we age, as we broaden our horizon, our taste change, be it in food, clothing, hobbies, the kind of books to read, just to name a few. I think this is a perfectly normal phenomenon, and everybody goes through it.
