It was, in fact. The opportunity was there for the keeper to perform. And he has shown some signs in the recently concluded tri-series in Bangladesh. He was unlucky to miss out on a 50+ score and that is why we can say that he has not hit even a single half-century. He was out on 48, I remember. Maybe that is the reason why he has been included in the Test team. But as the wickets were falling and that too against a team like Bangladesh where the chief batsmen did not trouble the Bangladeshi bowlers much. Well known batsmen like Gautam Gambhir, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman all played below their capabilities. In fact all are such fine players that all can score huge runs against teams like Australia and South Africa and they have done that in the past too. But today was a different story. As you said about Kartik, I really feel for this guy as he could not even break the duck too. But it happens to great players too. He has still some chance in this Test or till Dhoni comes back to prove himself in the form of keeping wickets. And it surely seems, as of now that India will have to bat the second time in this Test. And if they do, Kartik has no excuse but he should prove himself with the bat.

well as one of my fellow mylotter said whats the use? no place is available for karthik. besides he does well in ODIs and T20s but because of the insecurity,he was not able to perform well in the test level. by the way, there die-hards dhoni fans will be watching and probably wishing he would drop catches so they can happily claim no one can match their captain cool in any department

Well my friend although it is a good opportunity for him but then too what is the use. I mean the most sad part about him is that the captain of the Indian team is a wicket keeper. And so that rules out his place by a huge margin. Yes he bats very well, but then too he is not as good to be in the team as a batsman only. So I think it’s a bit sad for him.
