"Shortcutting" ones name means you are close to them like Jordan-Jords Clarisse-Clar. It's a simple way of feeling the bond between friends since they also shortcut your name. If I have new friend I try to shortcut is/her name and I ask her if that is okay with him/her. Do you shortcut names too? Sometime, even if you don't shortcut their names they'll tell you their shorter version of their names. I love to hear some weird version of shortcut names like Margaret-Ret and Alyssa-Issa. Hop-ing for your responses!!^^

I do that with people I'm fond of. The name doesn't even have to make sense to them, though it must to me. ^_^ And because I use those names a lot, the others begin using it too. XD

That's what I am talking about. LOL. I do that too with those people I am fond of and sometime I hate. Because I started the fire, other people/friends join the fun and keeps the fire burning. Till now the name I invented still lasts. thanks for your reply. Continue the fire!!^^

I do shortcut the names of my friends, it's just easier to call them like that. But they don't have too long names, so calling them with full name is okay too. One of my friends has family name "Tuvikene". I call him "Tuvi", which means pigeon in Estonian. You maybe a bit confused by these weird first and family names.

Every nation has it's own special names!:D No, I don't do that pigeon sound or act like one, but sometimes I make some jokes related to my friend's name:D

sure, at times when i feel like it or they prefere to be called that way. sometimes it's also a form of endearment among family members and friends. you may find it funny but i'm sometimes fond of giving new names or devising a more interesting nickname to friends and colleagues. then the others will follow me and the people concerned are happy. enjoy your time with your friends!

Thanks. Actually, yes it can be or it really is a form of endearment since those which are really close to you can call you that. The devision of new interesting names in college is so much fun. I do that to actually lessen the burden of calling them in nth syllables. LOL. thanks for the reply.
