My Parents

Something I noticed about my parents is that they are racist toward African Americans. I don't know why, but I think because of the stereotypes that African Americans has, like my parents say don't make friends with black people or they will attack you or robbed you something like that. Maybe because they're kind of like old and don't seem to understand that everyone is equal. I don't mind having an African American friend as a matter of fact I do have African American friends and we are good friends. Sometimes we play basketball together or hanging out. My parents seem to not understand that they are the same as we are...
How about you? Are you in this kind of situation?

I thank God my parents are not like this. I have just about every nationality in my family aldready. I have English, Puerto Rican, African American, Italian, Czechoslovakian and American Indian. How old are your parents? My parents are in their 70's and don't feel that way. I think it all has to do with their upbringing and environment. Your parents have to realize that anyone of any nationality can attack, rob, or even God forbid murder you. I will never understand that mindset.

Your parents probably learned from their parents. I don't think people should sterotype and you should be friends with whomever you want. My children are allowed to date whatever race they choose. They also have friends of many races. I think love sees no color. Besides there are bad people in all races and also good people in all races.

Hi, KicDash. No this is not like this in my family at all. We all like different people of many different colors. My mom nor dad has never taught me to hate someone that is of another skin color than I am. When I was younger, I had a best friend that was white. She was very nice to me and we got along very well. This is very mean for your parents to be this way.
They should try to get along with African Americans and not just to their own kind/color. That is not true at all, African Americans are not the only race that will attack or rob you. Any color is capable of doing this.. I can prove it... Look at what Sadam Hussein and Ben A laden did to the human race?? These terrorists were not African American and look what they did.. Now you see my point. I wished that your parents were not so racist. They should be better parents than this. To teach their child negative attitudes towards African Americans is the wrong approach to initiate. I am glad that you have never fallen into their whim. I hope that your parents will overcome their racism to African Americans.
