Are you still looking at your computer keyboard while typing?

I noticed that I am looking at the screen lately, rather than looking at my computer's keyboard. Maybe I am getting used to it. I have no formal training in computers, so I was very slow on my first 2 years using computers. Now, I am pretty fast, Isn't is amazing?

Yes, constant practice will greatly increase your typing speed. Like you, I no longer look at the keys in the keyboard. My fingers know where to strike and I do it quite fast. I have studied typing and I am using home keys as well. In other words, I am using the proper way of typing, using home keys, and I can type very fast without looking down.

@ davedevil No matter if English is you second language (me too). What matters most is the you keep on practicing. It like a cellphone that even if the key pad have no more characters to look but we still know where to hit the any keys.

Sometimes... not exactly. I sometimes do it, but most of the time, I don't even know why I know how I type. If you told me to write the letters one by one then I wouldn't know. But it's like second nature now to me, I guess. :P :P :P :P :P

Sometimes I look at the keyboard, as well as looking at the screen to see the keyboard normally never see the keyboard. Is the maximum speed can be done by just seeing the screen, because the keyboard typing slows me in a foreign language let alone use. I typed all day and I am sure that my typing faster and faster.

No I don't. I have a formal training using a typewriter. But I think 10 years of having a computer really helps. I'm not a fast in typing in fact I'm a turtle. lolz. But I'm comfortable in typing using my keyboard. By the way I'm using laptop and theirs a small difference in standard size of keyboard and laptop. That why when I used keyboard I need to have some simple adjustment before I can type a little bit faster.

No, only if I'm stuck with a foreign keyboard. When I'm in Austria there's a few letters I always mix, I always write pizza the wrong way for example. And when I was on Iceland I always had to check so I got the Icelandic letters right, they're at approximately the same place as the Norwegian special letters but not quite. Very annoying.

When i was in grade school my mom hired an almina tutor for me... At the time it was kind of a pain and the work was hard, but today i type so fast and look at the screen 95% of the time. I can even type and have a conversation at the same time.

Hi Alohagems, Interesting discussion! Well, for me, most of the time, i am looking at the screen because i need to make sure what i typed is correct. But sometimes i have to look at the keyboard because there are some words or some signs that i don't normally used.

No, I don't have to look at teh keyboard to type. I can look at the screern pretty much, except for maybe the number keys and some symbols as they aren't use as much as I really don't know where they are. I type way to fast sometimes, and make lots of mistakes, hence, I have nede up accidentally deleting my post before i could submit and have to type it all again, but that is okay, as it doesn't hapen all the time anyway. I have been typing for a very lon time, so I am used to looking at the tv or the computer screenwhile I type. I do look back at the screen though to make sure I didn't make any mistakes and that the words are spelled correctly. It is very easy to make mistakes as fast as I type, so I do have to make sure I have my fingers on the right keys. Take care, and happy mylotting.

Good for you!!! Some people never get the hang of typing without looking at the keys. Did you know the keyboard is actually designed to slow a person down? The original typewriters were manual and the keys would get jammed if one typed too fast so they designed the keyboard to slow folks down to avoid the jams. And we still use the same keyboard set up! Odd bit of trivia but true! And you will find that the more your type the faster you will get without even thinking about it!

Its good to see that you are improving. I am just trying to look at the screen while i am posting this response and surprisingly I am able to type much of the response without having looked at the keyboard. I am noticing that i only look at the keyboard when i take a pause while writing and not when i am in the flow. i would just look at the keyboard to set my fingers again after having taken a break. Thanks for realizing me that. I am improving too..

Hi Alohagems, Good to hear there are some improvement in your typing skill. Sometimes, i do look at my computer keyboard when typing the words, especially when i am typing those new words. As for those common use words, i don't have to refer to my keyboard because it seems like my fingers had used to type those words, as it had been used everyday. Well, like we always heard "practice often do makes prefect." Everything do takes time for us to practice and get familiar with, to be able to type perfectly fast and accurately. Congratulate to you for your great achievement....

I still have to look on my keyboard while typing.I am looking forward to practice typing in the computer without looking my keyboard. But even if I am looking on the keyboard, I am , found my self more faster than before as compared when i am not doing content writing on the net. Having to type without looking the keyboard is an excellent skill that needs to be enhanced for the writer's like me. Still, i want to developed this skill sooner.

Well, for me it's quite amazing. Sometimes we don't even realize that we are in the middle of learning something. I also am never been attending computer course until now, but maybe my typing skill is not as much as you have. I know a jargon that told 'practice makes perfect'. I don't know who exactly start the quote, but what I know is that quote is used by Toyota Motor Corporation. So I guess we can use that quote in our daily life.

All I can say is Cortez Peters. My mother was a typing teacher . . . I went through the rigmarole so no looking at the fingers here!
