I have a lovely new black and white kitty named Freddie. He has quite a story. His previous owner declawed him at a young age and then turned him out. Poor Baby! He showed up at my younger brother's house sometime over the summer. He lives in Arkansas. My brother and sister-in-law feed him but couldn't bring him inside because she is allergic. So are my parents and sister ergo I am the only one in the family with cats in the house but I live in California. Now when I visited for the holidays my family spun me Freddie's sad story, and then I saw him out sleeping in the snow--it got very cold this winter. So I decided to adopt Freddie. Luckily, you can now fly pets on Southwest Airlines. So I brought Freddie home with me to California and he is now co-existing nicely with my girl cats (Ashley and Carlye). I had him neutered and microchipped. The vet also informed me that he might have FIV, but the test is only 50% accurate and if he was vaccinated for it previously he would show positive, so we will have to wait and see about that. I am glad I rescued Freddie. He is a very sweet kitty that follows me everywhere. I wondered who could have turned out such a sweet furbaby. Have any of you rescued a kitty? Have any of you taken care of a FIV kitty? Share you advice and stories with us.

They amputated his toes (woops not PC ) declawed him, but didn't neuter him. What friggin iddiots!!!!!!!!! Can I scream at them?!!!!! Can I bonk them on the head? I would like to chop their fingers off or pull their teeth out to teach them a lesson. I'm glad he's with you. He will have a proper life of sleeping on the sofa and getting what he needs. My kitty Tiger must be reading this too. He is screaming at the top of his lungs. Actually I think he wants me to make the rain stop so he can lay in the sun.

He's so adorable and he looks so relaxed and happy! I'll bet he thinks he's gone to kitty heaven with a nice warm house, food and friends! Sadly, many people think that cats can survive on their own so they just leave them out and that's that for them. So very sad that our shelters are so full with such beloved creatures! I haven't had an adoption story nearly as special as yours but both our girl kitties have come from shelters, got them fixed and chipped. They are spoiled beyond belief but they spoil us back with purrs and cuddles so they are family now. I am allergic to cats but love them so much, I just take the allergy meds and that's working well for me.

Same here. I am allergic to cats as well and just take the meds. All three of my furbabies are microchipped as I would be devastated if one got lost. Any adoption story is special cause that means a good home for a worthy kitty.

Thanks for the kind reply! I guess we did rescue them sort of since we got them from the Shelter. And one of them had a mere stub of a tail and was very scared and tiny. She grew healthy and is abit too plump now! We think maybe a dog got her since she was brought in as a feral kitten and she was terrified of dog sounds when we first brought her home. Now she's so confident and sweet!! Such a wonderful baby girl who follows me faithfully to the kitchen every time just to see if maybe there is more dinner possible...

yup..3 rescues just last month.we now have 6. i'd had 2 FeLV+ kitties previous.some tip into it,some don't. these two unfortunely succumbed to it eventually though kidney failure. the one had to wear sweaters due to easy chill and..he didn't like it,i'll tell you that much.sick as he was,he'd get that sweater off.

It's unthinkable that someone would declaw a cat and take away any chance of it defending himself and then putting it out to do just that. From what I've read, declawing is barbarrick and very painful for the cat even years afterward - they never feel the same in their feet again. I have 2 cats that have all their claws and they are indoor cats, both of them rescued. My two previous cats also were rescues and were never declawed and lived their whole lives in the house, no problems. Bless you for taking in the poor little sole and I hope everything works out with the FIV - I know it's a worry for you.

I would never declaw a cat. Its just inhumane. Its like chopping off the first digit of your finger. I shudder to think about it. But to declaw and cat (all four paws) and then toss him out to fend for himself, well that just ain't right. I am so glad I was in a position to be able to take Freddie in. Both of the other kitties I have have their claws, let them destroy what they may, they are full time indoor princesses. FIV is a worry but not too much of one. I am just grateful for every day with my beautiful furbabies.

I've rescued several cats over my lifetime. If not me, my mom has. I remember my cat Timithoy, a real sweet kitty cat. was hit by a car at a young age and blinded. Animal rescue saved him, and he ended up in a shelter after he was recovered enough. Word got around about him, and it eventually found its way to my WEnglish teacher's inbox. She printed out the artical after I showed interest in the animal. When I got home from school I showed it to my mom and begged her to let us get him. It didn't take much begging on my part, because my mother is a softy for cats and would rescue them. So she and my sister went up to jax to get him and he lived happily with us until shortly after I moved.

Here is my kitten's rescue story: My sister saw a kitten (we later named him CAT B) struggling in mud water under her car. He was like only 1-day old because he was so small and his eyes were still not opened. Cat B was all alone and soaked in the mud water and crying for mother. My sister brought him to an animal center but the lady in the center said he's too weak to survive even if my sister leaves him there. As my sister didn't want to leave him dying in the animal center, she brought Cat B home for me to take care of. As Cat B was so small, I had to feed him with kittens' milk every 2 hours, round-the-clock every day for a whole month. After each feeding, I also had to clean his poo-poo area with warm cottons because he was too small to poo by himself. It was tiring and stressful looking after such a small kitten. What's more frustrating is that every time my sister brought Cat B to the clinic, the vet always said we should be prepared for the worst because without his mother's milk, Cat B could easily catch any virus and die suddenly. My sister cried every time coming out of the vet. Fortunately, with our care Cat B grew stronger and stronger and now he's 2.5 years old. Last time when my sister brought Cat B to the vet again, she asked the vet why Cat B is so naughty. The vet asked my sister: "How can you expect a male little kitten not to be naughty!" That's how Cat B is now, very strong and healthy, we don't mind he's naughty because we're glad that he's survived all those difficult days without mother's care from day 1 onwards.

What a wonderful story. I am so glad you took care of Cat B and he grew up healthy and strong. Not many people would have take the time or care that you did to raise the baby.

I think my cat would qualify as a rescue. When I lived in a ground floor apartment about 8 years ago there was this really ugly cat that would hang around on my balcony and get into the garbage. One Saturday morning she showed up and we felt bad for her so we decided to let her in. She was skinny and scared but so lovey and cuddly. We fed her some cold cuts and by the time she was done her 'meal' I had decided to keep her. After she ate we noticed how round her little belly was and assumed it was just from her little cold cut feast. After a few days the belly was still there and we realized she was pregnant, and pretty far along! She had three kittens, I kept one and found homes for the other two. I still wonder what her story was, if she had a family and was abandoned or if she just wondered away from her home. I think she was just a stray but I have always wondered.

Glad you found homes for all the kittens! We had one like that years ago, we named her carpet because she looked like a shag carpet. She had kittens one rainy night under my bedroom window. She was feral and only one of her kittens decided to stay with us. The kitten was a beautiful black kitty which we aptly named midnight. She adopted us and we gave her a good home for several years until she disappeared.
