Well maybe kids loves looking at you. You are lucky by experiencing such a unique situation. I love kids too, so if that would happen to me, I will surely smile back and wave even at their parents presence. Kids are real and sometimes they are friendly to real persons at heart and looks.

I always smile and wave back, because I know that by this little gesture, we have made a kid happy and not feel rejected. I will also smile quickly to the parents if we are in the same bus. They might feel happy because we give attention to heir child, but if they don't I would then turn away and not sit near them.

I used to always wave and smile at others as a child. I wanted to bring a smile to others faces. Even today, if I see someone is looking down, I smile and say hi. They may not know me, but its just good karma and keeps the world a little happier. If I see a little kid smiling, or waving at me, I smile back, wave, and go on my way. Parents never seem to mind, at least none I have ever met. They just think it's cute.
