Have You Ever Had Problems With Contractors?

When I was younger my mother inherited money from my grandfather who passed away. She decided to renovate the home. Expanded room in the kitchen,2 bed rooms, and a new bathroom was added. A team of contractors were hired and everything was going smoothly with a lot of work getting done for the first few days. Then the boss of all the contractors was lied to by a fellow worker for the third time as he asked to if he could do the job to level our wooden floor as well as add the polish behind his back. My mother said he could do the job but didn't realize it would be that big a deal. Their boss fired the contractor for doing that behind his back as well as the entire working crew who were working in partnership with the worker who got fired. The good working crew was fired gone as well as the guy who lied. The group of workers broke of a business partnership with the guy who lied saying "I can't work like this as I've never been fired from a job". Things slow downed dramatically afterwards with all the workers gone and now the boss only had 3 employees to build extra room on to the house. I didn't help when my father whos ill and had epilepsy problems was getting on their back when they were just trying to finish and do their job. I'm not putting down my dad but he stalled them and gave them a hard time when they would had been more productive without my father bothering them. The work dragged on for over a year resulting in my parents having to call the authority on contrators in the state just to do the job properly. The boss of the contractors eventually had to make sure things were done properly or his contracting license would have been taking away. What alarmed me more than anything about the contractor my mother hired was he would ask for the money before getting the job done. She gave it to him. I didn't understand why my mom gave him the money before even finishing the job as thats not good way of doing business. The lier guy who my mother agreed to let do the floors was even worse as he took the money and didn't plan on renovating the floors. She took him to court where the judge told him to redo the floors since she had paid him. Whats alarming is when she got home from court she later found all 4 of her tires flat on her van. She said during the break where the judge was to decide his decison the lier was gone longer than what you would expect leading her to believe he slashed her tires during the court break. She couldn't prove it though, or maybe she could have as I would had asked if their wheres security video out in the parking lot. She didn't ask. He did the floors but he didn't know what he was doing as the floors were uneven he did so we eventually rehired somebody to do the floors who said how terrible of a job the guy did on the floors. My grandfather who came over and was looking more at the details of what the crooked contractors were doing said "He wouldn't let these guys work for free". Thats pretty bad. I will say though my mom was in a rush as my dad draws SSI because of his epilepsy. When she inherited what I will only say a lot of money from my grandfather she had to spend it all within a month just so my dad wouldn't lose his SSI which is the main source of income my parents had. She was in a rush and had much going on so there wasn't a lot of time to think about what all she could buy. Even though with all the mess involving the contractors I think the house turned out looking really well. Any contractor problems from anyone as I've heard they have a reputation for causing problems.

That is a sad thing your mom went thru.
The oly contractors I have hired was someone to putin a sprinkling system which was done pretty good but they left the grouns very uneven.
and then I got another one to lay the vynal rug in my kitchen they did a real good job BUT it cost more for them to do it than the rug cost ended up spending $2800 for that contractor!
