Another music icon has passed. Kate McGarrigle (one half of the McGarrigle Sisters - Heart Like a Wheel) has died at the age of 63, after a lengthy battle with a rare form of cancer. She and her sister Anna recorded 10 albums in French and English, and their songs have been covered by artists such as Linda Ronstadt, Billy Bragg and Emmylou Harris. She was married for some time to Loudon Wainwright III - Dead Skunk (in the Middle of the Road) and is the mother of Rufus Wainwright and Martha Wainwright, both of whom have followed in their parents' footsteps.

Now that is really sad. I loved them and one of my all time favourite songs was their rendition of the Swimming Song. She was one of the greats.
