The researcher form UT South medical center surgeons and physicians evaluated data over a 36 year period from the national hospital discharge survey and concluded that appendicities may be caused by undetermined viral infection or infections, said Dr.Edwin Livinston, chief of GI/ENDOCRINE SURGERY AT UT Southwestern and senior author of the report. the reviw of the hospital discharge data runs counter to traditional thought, suggesting that appendicitis doesnt necessary lead to a burst apeendix if the organ is not removed quickly ." just as traditional appendix scar across the abdomen is fast becoming history , thanks to new single incision technique that hide a tiny scar in the bellybuttun , so too may the conventioanl wisdom that patients with appendicities need to be operated on as need to be seen quickly by a physician but emergency surgery is now in question".appendicities is most commen reason for emergency general surgery leading to some 280000 appendectomies being peformed annualy. appendicities was first identified in 1886 since then doctors have presumed quick removal of the appendiz was a necessity to avoid a appendixxx solves bursting which can be an emergency beacuse removing the appendix solves the problems and is generaly safe, removal became the standard medical practice in the early 20th century. but this latest reaerch studying appendicities trends from 1970 to 2006 suggest that immidiate removal may not be necessary. evidence from sailors at sea without access to immmidiate surgery and from some childre's hospitals, whose didnt call for emergency surgery, hinted that non perforated appendicities without suregry, said Dr.Livinston. the peak and valleys of appendicities cases generally matched up over time suggesting it is possible that these disorders share commen etiologic determinets ,pathogenetic mechanicsms or enviornmental factors that similarly affect their incidentce."Though appendicities is fairly commen ,it still remains a frustating medical mystery..

If appendicitis is in fact caused by a viral infection, you wouldn't be able to treat it with antibiotics because viral infections are not treated with antibiotics, only bacterial infections are. That said, I think that the evolution of medical care has happened to such a degree that the ways that a lot of different ailments are treated has changed a lot in the past century, with the greatest developments being in about the last 25 years. If there was a way to isolate the virus that causes viral infection in the appendix, there could be hope that a vaccine could be developed to keep individuals from getting appendicitis at all.

I didn“t know that but it is very interesting. I remember that stomach ulcers used to be treated a lot different that what they do now. It seems the there, too, the is an infection that can be treated with antibiotics. Thanks for sharing!
