Have you ever visited an Electrical Thermal Power Plant? Well I have got a golden chance to visit it. It was about one year ago when I got the opportunity to have 4-week summer training in a very well known electrical thermal power plant. The capacity of that plant was about 1600 megawatts where coal is used as fuel. I was made to work under one of the engineer of that plant. He took me to different places of that plant. As I am an Electrical Engineering student so I was mainly confined to alternators and switch yard. However different parts like CHP(Coal handling plant, boiler, relay room, chimney, etc was shown to me. It was very painful experience when I was on the top of the boiler as there is tremendous temperature and ashes around it. There was very irritating sound near the alternators where five machines of different ratings were running at a time. Overall it was a nice experience getting trained there.

No, but I've taken a swim in water that had passed through one in the Blue Lagoon on Iceland. Far too warm for me as it was in the summer, but I think it would have been nice in the winter. Then you can stick up an arm or a foot and cool down.

well am a time served electrician and I was trained at a nuclear power station at sellafield in the northwest uk. We used to work in radio active area's and in the reactors themselves dressed up in plastic protection suits the temperature round the reactor was about 30-40 degrees c, and being in the plastic suits you can add another 10 degrees c to that figure we used to have to work in two's with one person working and the other there incase you passed out due to the heat, then 10 mins later you would swap around. Those were the days.
