Have You Ever Had a Long Rock Track Request Played In Full On The Radio?

I have! I was so ecstatic about it at the time I managed to tape it and play it to all my friends where I worked. Couldn't really understand why they weren't as excited as I was but I didn't care...I just HAD to play it! Which track was it and when? Well, it would've been (probably) 1985, around that time. I don't know if the show exists now but back then Tommy Vance (now sadly deceased) had a show called "The Friday Rock Show" which ran from 10pm - midnight. I had sent a letter to Tommy asking him to play the track for various people including "Pregnant Sue" (which cracked him up) and "B*stard Roscoe" ...he didn't read the "b*stard" bit although made a reference to it, which was funnier than the word itself! Which track am I referring to? The mighty "Creeping Death" by Metallica which I know came out in 1984 but it was definitely played in a later year for my benefit. I've no idea what became of my tape but, at the time, I'd play it whenever I came across a tape player...and once in Roscoe's car because he didn't believe I'd had a request played. Should've seen his face when Tommy Vance had a laugh at his expense! Haha!

I rang a radio station one Saturday night while socialising with friends about 18 - 20 years ago. I was surprised that I had gotten through and requested a song. They told me that they had already played that particular song that night, but they suggested that I request a song that they were just about to play anyway. I felt ripped off, but I did it anyway as I wanted to hear my voice on the radio and give everyone a laugh. I cannot remember the song that I originally requested. It was a classic rock station and I think it may have been Paint It Black by The Rolling Stones. I am pretty sure that they made me request a song by Elton John.

Oh wow, phoning in lol. Haha! I like it. Mine was via a letter. Tommy Vance used to read bits and bobs out that people sent in but he read ALL of my letter to the nation. Amazingly, I didn't ramble on as much as I do now so it was all "to the point" lol. It was great hearing Tommy's rasping laugh! Fabulous. He is sadly missed, such a great radio broadcaster and interviewer of extremely cool rock stars!
