I have Acer Aspire 4530z. And I used my laptop the way you used it. The only difference is that I used it longer than you lol. Usually, I begin using it normally, and then if the battery empty, I would charge it until I have done. That's right, until I done, not until the battery full. Maybe I was not the proper person to be asked about keeping the battery long life, because my way of using it doesn't even represents. But I was advised that if you plan to use your laptop for more than 1 hour (because every laptop battery usually run out if we use it exceeds 1 hour), we should take out the battery and plug in the electricity. However, I always think that way is rather disturbing.

Well, I have a Dell Latute D830 since a year ago. I use it a lot but not for gaming. At the beginning I read much about the ways too make the battery life longer. The key was about the charging, In contrary to the older batteries, new one should be charged before become completely empty and better to have several charges! That time it was working 4hr on battery (Now 1-2hr). How ever it highly depends on what you are doing with. Anyway, I got the best way: usually not using the battery and using the power without battery. Now after a year when I put the battery in, vista tell me the life of my battery is going to be finished and better to think of a new one. So, overall this is my suggestion: Use your laptop and enjoy it without a moment of thinking and caring it. After a year, you should look for a new one, seeing yours with a price half of what you paid.

I have a Dell studio laptop that holds up on battery for four hours most the time.It depends on your setting for battery usage as well.If you want to conserve your battery change the usage to be lower your system may run a bit slower but its worth it for the long trips of boredom. My Compaq Laptop is definately to old as well as the battery it only lasts around an hour.It also depends on the output of your battery some laptops have the extended bay batteries that give you more usage.:)
