Janitor fishes cleans the ponds and aquariums, but they also eat those eggs of different fishes, thus decreasing the numbers of different fish species. They also live on some rivers and they are increasing in great numbers.
This fishes cannot be eaten right,,so what they can provide is just to clean the natural water systems, and too much of them dangers other species. do we need to get rid of them and decrease their population?

Janitor fish can be infact eaten. I had this big fish. It was white with red lines on its body. It ate the Janitor fish, more like swallowed, we had 2 janitor fish for the other one, it bit off its tail. I have never heard of janitor fish eating other fish. Do you mean like janitor fish attaching themselves with their suckers to the body of other fishes and eating them?

hi varron!
Last year there have been reports here in our country of a massive population of janitor fish on Marikina River (one of the popular river in our main city). It said to be that, janitor fish killed other fishes on the river and with its increasing number the water got a bit dirty and polluted. Janitor fish has some kind of oil/toxic/gas on their body. You are right!
I never heard of it to be served as a meal. No one would like to eat it because of its odd taste. But there was this guy here in the Philippines that invented an oil/gas out of the janitor fish's body, I'm quite sure if it was from its skin but basically he pulled a lot of janitor fish out of the river to produce some renewable oil that can be used in the future. If that invention will be successful then, it may help to reduce the population of janitor fish and at the same time produce something good out of it.
Happy Lotting!

Yes, we really need to control them. Janitor fishes can live in the dirtiest of the dirtiest waters up to the cleanest! Some Philippine students discovered in their research project in Science that oil can be extracted from these fishes. I hope our government will support this amazing discovery.
