Hi friends! The exclusion of Pakistan and some of the Australian Players is discussed a lot. It is termed as a politically motivated act. The first thing: Is IPL just cricket? No. It is business. The second thing: Why anyone is into a business? To make money. Then franchises are into IPL to make money. So they want to spend money on those investments that give them more return and also stable. Now, former cricketer arguing that this exclusion is unfair. Then are cricketers ready to play for FREE? No. Then why they expect franchises to select people whose participation is not 100 per cent sure? Because they don't own any team. As Shah Rukh Khan said last time with respect to Gavaskar. Owning a team by spending crores is different and just being a sportsman is different. When cricketers want money they also need to commit to give back to the franchises. Otherwise play for free and franchises will be glad to include such people in the team! Cricket is not just cricket, it is a business. And business decisions are motivated by how to get a GOOD RETURN. If not then the BUSINESS won't survive. Accepting to get auctioned itself is a bad thing for cricket. When cricket gets involved too much with Money then this kind of things happen for sure. As the classic goes: IT'S NOT CRICKET. So, IT IS CRICKET BUSINESS. Share your views! Happy Mylotting!

IPL is just a crciket league and it is not bad if the cricket board can make a good amount of money. I am not able to understand why a lot of people are against IPL making money . It is just like the other football leagues and I haven't found anywhere so much discussions over and criticization of football leagues and the money they make from them , then why so much critics about cricket.

You missed out the point. This discussion is not about money making by cricket. It is about IPL. IPL is there because there are franchises who own teams. Happy Mylotting!

@shail5554 I guess you need to do some research before posting. Agreed football leagues make money and infact much more than IPL but show me one league where a player who's out contact is auctioned by the football association of that country and they keep the money. Its the clubs who make money when they sell their players, not the FA. Also, the FA's conducting the leagues earn money only from sponsors and advertizers along with participation fee and fines collected from players and clubs for any sort of altercations. But most of the money is used in paying salaries to officials, improving the league structure and also helping the national team by improving the facilities. You think that happens in India?

Yes you are right. Cricket is more than just a sport today. It is a career in different aspects - we see scores of former players serving game differently. Gary Kirsten, Kumar Dharmasena, Ravi Shastri, Sunil Gavaskar, Sanjay Manjarekar have all taken up different jobs at different levels. Still there are many more who cannot be all named who are doing umpiring or have taken up commentory in local tournaments or abroad like the county cricket in England or the KFC Big Bash in Australia or the Champions League T20 and the IPL in India. So, cricket is surely a business today. Sponsers pour in crores of rupees to just get their logo and name going. The unhealthy conditions between nations can affect other things amoung sports and I don't think that is not unnatural. The players themselves should understand this. They are mature enough. And when it comes to IPL that is India and Pakistan things need to be taken as they come. Australia too should understand this that so many Indian are becoming victims there and how can they expect to come here and play cricket safely? As you said, is IPL cricket and you yourself answered it as no. If it had only been cricket, film stars would not have had teams, corporate bigwigs would not have owned teams. So, this is business for them and anyone would accept this fact. The best solution what I presently think is that all should adopt a wait and watch policy and let things take their own course.

ipl is basically business and entertainment industry. nothing is good or bad for cricket, we should just try to enjoy the game and players should try to keep the spirit on

I couldn't agree more with you on this issue. IPL is specifically designed for big time investors to make profit. Its not about Cricket at all. I've never seen anything like the IPL auction all my life. I mean, auctioning the players just to mint money! Its crazy. And to top it all, this money goes to BCCI who pocket all the money and only a little is given back to the winning franchises. Unbelievable. I can understand why franchises opted not to buy Pakistani players as their participation is not guaranteed. Add to that the political tension between the countries. Why would take the risk when the chances of returns are too bleak. The Pak government and players and say all want but its business. I'm sure the franchises would buy pak players if their participation was guaranteed.

Thanks for the response! Yes you are right BCCI gets benefited no matter who loses or wins. And ya, franchise would select the players if their participation was guaranteed. Many teams suffered due to some players' absence in the IPL2. So the franchise are being cautious this time I guess. Have a nice time!
