Would like some info and ideas for Scallops

Hi Fellow MyLotters, I am interestingin hearing what you think about scallops. What do they taste like? Are they nice and how do you eat yours? I like watching cooking programmes and scallops are often used, a recipe I have seen quite frequently is seared scallops with braod bean puree. Anyone tried that? What other things can I do with scallops?

I don't think they have much flavour. they have a very mild flavour, and I think they're more about the texture, which is lovely, unless they're overcooked. usually when I've had them eating out, they are often served with a bit of salad, some chorizo and balsamic vinegar, which is lovely.

Do you know how long they are supposed to be cooked for? I saw an online recipe for scallops with chorizo so I will dig it up again and definitely try that one. What is the texture like?

it's quite soft and tender. when they're overcooked they go chewy. I'll be honest that I've never cooked them myself, so I don't really know how long you need to cook them for, but it's probably hardly any time at all, as with most seafood.

Thanks maybe I better try them in a restaurant first before attempting it myself or I suppose I could test out some recipes and stick to their guidelines and kind of learn how long I need to cook it as time goes by. They look very nice and sound interesting whenever I see them on the cooking competitions like Masterchef or Come Dine with Me.

I worked for a catering company, and we would take the scallops and wrap them in bacon and bake them. They make great appetisers .

I am not really into bacon but I guess I could improvise and replace with parma ham which I do like. Do you know if they seasoned them?

i love scallops. i don't get to eat it much but when i travel and it's available in the area, i usually order baked scallops. it has lots of cheese, butter and garlic. some put a little more seasoning but i like to keep it basic. it only takes about 5-7 minutes that's why i like it. the texture is much nicer than baked clams. i haven't tried any other recipe though.

I have pan fried scallops before. It is easy to do, although they are rather flavorless. It does not take more than a few minutes to cook them. I like having them with teriyaki sauce. Lemon juice is also nice.
