How To Add A Background Image To Your Profile

Click on my name and go check out my profile page.................go ahead..........I'll wait here. Pretty cool huh? So how do you get a back ground image on your profile page? That's what I'm going to show you how to do today. First we need to find a background image you want to put on your profile page. MySpace layouts are the ones that I find work here on myLot, there may be others, but I KNOW the MySpace ones work. Here's the site I use: http://www.pimp-my-profile.com/ Again, there are a lot of sites that have MySpace layouts but I have only used this one so I can GUARANTEE that these layouts work.......I'm sure other ones will work also, but I've never tried them, so you're on your own if you use a different site. OK.....let's get started. First click on the link above to go to the site. Next click on "MySpace layouts" DON'T click on the 2.0 version, I don't think they work here. Now you should see a bunch of categories to choose from........go ahead and pick one. (I chose "Artistic & Abstract") Now you should see 10 small background layouts, at the bottom of these you'll see all the pages that are in that category. ("Artistic & Abstract" has 113 pages) Each page has page has 10 layouts. (I found mine on page 64) To view a layout in full size, just click "Preview" this will open the layout in full size in a new tab or window depending on how you have your browser set up. I'd just like to note here, there are 1000s of different layouts. If you see something that you might want to use but want to keep looking, you might want to write down the category and page numbers of the layouts that interest you. Once you find the layout you want to put on you profile page, click on "Details & Code" Now highlight (turn blue) the code and copy it (Ctrl-c) It's a big code, make sure you get the whole thing or it won't work. OK.........off to your profile page! Click "edit profile" under your profile picture. Now click "add content" in the upper right corner. Choose HTML and then click "add item" Your HTML sortie should now be open at the bottom of your page. The large blank box is where you you want to paste (Ctrl v) your layout code. Now click "reset theme" in your HTML sortie, you should get a pop asking you if you want to reset your theme......click "yes" If you followed my steps, and did everything correctly, you should now be able to see your background layout. Now all you need to do is change your text, borders, links, etc colors. These colors are entirely up to you but you want to choose colors that can be seen against your new background. DON'T PICK A COLOR FOR THE SORTIE BACKGROUNDS!!! You have to edit each of your sorties individually (just click edit in the upper right corner of the sortie to edit the different element colors) The easiest way to get all your sorties to match, is to do each element one at a time. For example, start with your top most sortie and choose the color you want for your text, now copy that HEX value (color number) and paste it in all your sorties text boxes......this way your text will be the same color on your whole profile page......unless you want them all to be different colors.....it's up to you. now go back and do the same thing for border colors, link colors, etc. Make sure you click on "edit profile colors" in the upper right corner and change those colors too. That's for the text and stuff that appears in the menu directly under your profile picture. Now, THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!!! Anywhere where it says background.....sortie background, menu background, etc, instead of choosing a color, you want to type in the word transparent. This makes all your sorties transparent or see through.....if you don't do this, you'll have huge boxes covering your beautiful new profile background. That's it, you're done......just click "view profile" to exit edit mode. Go tell your friends and neighbors to check out your new profile page!!! If you're un-happy with any of the colors you chose, just click edit again and change them.....experiment, have fun. Now if you ever want to change your background layout, you don't have to click "add item" again.....just click "edit profile" find your HTML sortie and click "edit" now you just need to paste your new code over your old code and click "reset theme" Well, I hope this helps you customize your profile page just the way you want it. If you have any problems or questions, just post here and I'll try to help you. HAPPY MYLOTTING!!!

Yeah......looks good! As far as pictures, it may not work anymore, we used to be able to put pictures on other people's profile pages but "THEY" disabled that a while back so they may have disabled putting pics on your own profile too.........but since I haven't tried in quite some time, don't quote me.

Hey Sconibear So after having done this once I was like WoW and it worked. Being the typical girl, I decided to change it and it won't work the second time around. So now I am the crazy Mylotter pulling my hair out and banging my head off the keyboard saying why? WHY? Why? ~I am also amazing, I typed this with my forehead while banging my head of the keyboard, Mylotters are talented

I've put the background in but when I type "transparent" for the background, it just goes to white.

For the backgrounds of my sorties I type in 'transparent' then 'reset theme'...it stays white...so I type in 'transparent' and hit 'save changes'...it stays white. I ran out of smokes 20 minutes ago and I'm ready to throttle someone/thing.

Hmmmmmm........I'm not sure. I haven't messed with mine in so long. I remember when I had problems before I had to use a different browser....also myLot may have changed something in their coding after all this time.....just keep experimenting and good luck.

Thank you for that Sconi On my first day off from work I am going to see about adding one to mine too. The instructions you gave are so clear that I'm sure I shall be able to do it too. Do they work on blogs as well as on our profiles here?

Not bad. If you don't want the blue background behind your words, just type transparent anywhere you see background.

I tried that but afterwords I couldnt see the words in order to change the other colors so I had to change it back I may have to find a lighter background

Well... dang! I'm a day late and a dollar short. (OK, maybe just a few hours late.) I just commented in the 'BIGGER' thread with codes I found worked for changing the background. Of course, the Pimp-My-Profile site supplies everything (I just supplied the basic code meaning you supply your own image). Kudos. Nice job. Unfortunately, where I live, I still suffer dial-up, so your profile just now finally loaded. Impressive, but I did have to highlight the text to read it. I only supplied CSS codes for changing the main page and profile page background, leaving the text sorties blank. (That, plus I got tired of experimenting and figuring out the codes for each separate box because editing is a PITA sometimes, since it doesn't always want to register changes for me.)

Yeah, sometimes it's hard trying to find the right text colors to stand out from the background. That background I picked has a lot of different colors in it so i found something that wouldn't clash too bad.....it could probably still use a little tweaking. I should have mentioned that once you start editing your profile page, it does sometimes become a headache. Sometimes things work and some times they don't. I've been trying to just put some text in for like a half hour now but it just won't stick.....might have to give it up until tomorrow.

Whew thats a lot to do but I may try it later. I used to have a space on myspace and enjoyed changing my backgrounds to change with seasons and such. gotta say I like your front page for here on mylot!!! REALLY makes white and black look dull LOL Read pretty much all your profile, and really enjoyed reading about you! Have to say you gave me a nice smile on your synopsis of yourself. I am kind of a carefree type wanna give people a smile too. Have a wonderful day, and again thanks I will give this a try later to see if I can do it without throwing the laptop across the room trying to figure it out!!!
