Haiti doesn't want our help?

So I read this article and it pissed me off. Here we are sending money our nation doesn't have to help people where a natural disaster wreck havoc. Now do not get me wrong I believe as people we should help others but the fact that people are Bi*^hng about our help ticks me off. If we said " no we can't help we are in economic crisis..." the world would be attacking us as cruel and uncaring. Yet here we are helping and it's all about conspiracy theories. Can we as a nation do anything right? opinionatelady seems we cannot do anything right in the eyes of other nations. we send inour troops to try to help these people a and rescue buried people and save lives and feed, and clothe, and help them, and we are taking over?come on this is gross stupidity. we would have been screamed at had we not gone to help them , do they want help or want to put us down? We have huge problems right here in our own country but we did the right thing and sent help to Haiti and now they think we just are taking over? oh come on now, be reasonable. We are on the brink of national financial disaster ourselves yet we sent our people over there to do nothing but help them, and we really did not have to, as we had our own problems. this tees me off also.

A couple of people from other nations is not "other nations". If it was like that (about taking over) It would seem that the rest of the world is taking up Haiti. The US is by no means the only country helping nor is the one that has more economic problems in the world. We, the people from the rest of the world, are helping out because it is the only human thing to do regardless who thinks what about it. I´m chilean. We know about earthquakes (the worst earthquake recorded was in my country). We are helping too, even though our economy is a lot worse the US economy at it´s worst. There´s always people who will say something stupid about what one does. But that shouldn´t make us stop doing what we thnk it´s right.Take care.

hatley - this is not the case. comments were made about aid having strings attached (not by haiti) (which is true) but the us, along with the rest of the world, is doing the only thing it can under the circumstances and helping. nobody is throwing it back in the usa's face.

If you examine the history of Haiti and the way it has been treated, or more often mistreated, by the United States, you might understand why some Haitians would be dubious about the value of another invasion by the U.S., even with humanitarian intentions. That nation has been abused repeatedly by the United States for two hundred years. They might be just a tad worried about a large influx of U.S. personnel, especially military personnel.

I don't know about this article I think the people there appreciate any help coming from different countries. US is ruling the Haiti that's why I they are suspecting that the US has a hidden agenda about helping them and taking charge. In my opinion they would not taking advantage of it instead they are helping the Haitian to rebuild their life and their country.

Of course, "people are bytching" but it's not the Haitian people! It's not even "France" or the French President! If there's onething we as a nation CAN do right it's helping those around the world who are in need and if ever anyone has been in need it's the people of Haiti right now. Annie

Annie I am sure that the hattian government has worries that the US will take over, but as a US citizen just imagine you having to have that fear that we could be taken over. Kind of scary. Just because someone with a big mouth voices his opinion it does not mean that the Hattian people do not appreciate everything we have done for them. All people in power of governments have done and said some bonehead things but it doesnt mean they speak for all the people. And yes this includes the US.

The article did NOT say that the Haitians or the Haitian government didn't want our help. In fact....just the opposite. The criticism primarily came from one hot-tempered French minister. It also mentioned the president of Venezuela's negative remarks (so what's new. He's far from a fan of the U.S.).

You obviously know that there are trust issues. My country had just such a had time, when trying to lend a helping hand. But at the end of the day, you cared enough to help. Do not let it bother you. Life goes on, whether we are all in the same boat towards the same destination or not. Just relax, it isn,t healthy to upset yourself like that. There is nothing we can do about it. Maybe one day, someone will appreciate our help. Have a nice day.

There are many people here in America who are Christians. And there are many non Christians also. Of this set of people, there are those who have it in their hearts to help others when help is needed. We put on our armor and help. When we are doing good, we don't care what others think or what negativity they throw at us. When we do bad, we deserve the criticism. But there are many who want to complain like spoiled little kids. They don't understand why the world is angry at us for what we did to Iraq. They don't understand that most of those same people who blasted us for attacking Iraq, are our same friends who supported us after 9-11. When your friends do right, you support them. When your friends do wrong, you tell them. To a Christian, right is not wrong. Thus, don't forget that we are all in the same boat. If this boat (earth) sinks, we either: a) all find a solution and fight (stay afloat) or b) we fight each other and complain (sink).

From the article, I got that the ppl there are happy we are there, helping them out. It's other ppl, mainly a guy from France, that is causing a fuss. I wonder how much he'd be complaining if he was the one suffering. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **HAPPINESS IS A CHOICE**

I had discussed something similar w/ my MIL that we can't get jobs here, we can't feed our families, we can't keep our homes and jobs are disappearing daily... but yet we give to a nation that has less than we have. This whole thing is a double edged sword KWIM? We have the funds to rush & help others but no one is helping our economy out? unless of course you are one of the big banks that recieved a tidy bail out and annual bonus'. Like you mentioned if we don't help we are jerks, but when we do it turns into a whole other kettle of fish.... I dunno sometimes I wish we'd focus on the USA first and then if we have the funds to spare (wich we don't if you saw how much China ect owns of us! ) help others. But I guess that's just the selfish side of me, take care of the USA's problems first before you hand out cash we don't have to others.

The fact is that someone had to come in and take charge of things and since we're the closest to them, are offering the most assistance and probably know how to handle this type of situation better than the other countries, and I doubt that any of them want the job, those complaining countries need to keep their mouths shut. As long as the Haitians are glad we're there, what does it matter what anyone else thinks. Besides, it's always been damned if we do and damned if we don't with some countries. It's not worth be concerned about.

People are walking with Katanas around port au prince, ridiculous. It takes a while before things are organized and the fact that there's one amateurish airport isn't making things easier. There are always idiots around who aren't happy with our money, if you don't want us to help you then bye bye, we will leave...
