Hey Myloters! I got my 12th rejection yesterday and I've been feeling kinda down about it, so I wanted to know if any of you out there have gotten rejections too. How many have you gotten? Did you ever get your writing to go anywhere after you got them? Please let me know!

I got nothing but rejection slips for 8 solid years before I finally started getting work accepted for publication, so I had lots of them and sometimes I still get them even today. There are all types of reasons for rejections, sometimes it may have nothing at all to do with your work. Other times it does.
I just kept plugging away and learning everything I could about writing.I read every book I could find on the subject, not only read but studied such books. I took every writing class I could afford, some were useless but some were a lot of help. I also took English courses when I could afford them, anything I thought would help my writing. And so on. Writing is like any other art. You have to learn how to do it. Writer's Digest and The Writer are two really good magazines for writers. They usually have copies of those in your local library.
As for 12th rejection, don't let that get you down too much. I know it's hard not to give in to self-doubt and sorrow over rejection. It gets everyone down to have the same work rejected over and over. However, the first Harry Potter book, sent out by an agent, was rejected at first by four publishers. The first Twilight book was turned down by about 20 agents before someone saw the potential in that. There are tons of famous works now that got rejected many times before someone realized the potential of the writing. So hang in there. Rejection sucks, but if you're a writer it's just a part of life...not a pleasant part, but look at it this way. If you're getting rejected, you're in there swinging and trying and I think sometimes it's the most persistent writers who finally make it.
Oh, also, Stephen King, while writing Carrie, finally got so disgusted, I read somewhere, that he threw the manuscript in the trash. It was his wife who encouraged him to finish it. I remember seeing him at some lecture years ago and he said when he realized someone had accepted his first novel, I think he said he was teaching high school at the time, he was so excited he went out and walked around his house several times and then he went and bought his wife a hair dryer, thinking then he could probably afford it. So even Stephen King once had doubts and rejection slips. Happens to all the greats. Hang in there and good luck.

Thanks for your comment. I know 12 is a really small number in the grand scheme of things and I shouldn't be worried yet. I've only been sending stuff out for a year, so it's nice to know someone actually got accepted after 8 years of rejection. I'll keep working on my writing and keep submitting.

Well, my stories or works have been rejected few times, but I don't keep track of them. I'll just let it past and start afresh. It is good if the rejected work come with suggestions so that you can improve your work in the future. Don't give up and keep it up! good luck!

I have had my share of rejections and personally I'd rather not keep track of them as they really bum me out. maybe you should take a break, go on a vacation or something. that might cheer you up and hopefully it will give you newfound strength in pursuing your writing.

Apparently, we just have to live with rejections no matter how much it sucks. It sucks big-time I know I've done good and did it correctly but it just ends up being rejected. My efforts are totally wasted, but I do not keep track how many times it has happened. It's more depressing. Well, about writing, I seldom submit articles or poems. Lately, I submitted two articles and both were accepted, but it's hard to get so many page views so it's still kinda discouraging.
