To be able for you to learn, you must have to start with a single piece of song, something that has a little number of simple chords. I advise that you must try to learn songs that has 3 or 4 guitar chord. The first thing to do is to make your hands familiarize this chord positions by making a lot of practice, it well make the difference. After getting familiarize with the chords try to use it and strum the guitar. Listen to the rhythm of the song and strum accordingly. Repeat...repeat and repeat until you know it. You will need a constant practice and at the end you will realize that you can play that piece with ease. What you must consider is the timing of your right hand to your left hand with respect to the music.

yes now i'm pretty familiar with most of the common chords used and even some uncommon ones and can hold them down and shift between chords pretty good. but my strumming is not very satisfactory and using a pick makes things worse! striking individual strings with the pick...that's one big problem! just can't seem to figure out different styles of strumming. i've tried out different tunings too, like the drop d tuning mark uses frequently. thanks for the tips and hope to know more from you!

Mark Tremonti is a very talented guitarist, Through my years of playing(Im still not good) i have observed that there are two types of guitar players or musicians. One is talented and the other one is skilled. Talented guitarist/musicians as i can see from them, they can really play good music no matter how fast or slow. It could be because of the perfect pitch that they got from some unknown reason. The skilled guitarist is the one who practices to make every sound good and to make their playing more better. For you to learn really fast, the secret is to take it slow, try to learn the basics first and make it sound good. The technicality of the playing is nothing unless you can make a music sound good. Master the basics and you will be the man forever and do not forget to listen to music just to have better prospects from time to time.
