Day 22 Saving update on Day 21

Ok so Day 21 we went out to the movies. The movie was called "To Save A life" a pretty good movie reminded me of "Fireproof" but instead on marriage it talked bout Teenagers. really good movie for those. While at the movie theater we were talking bout getting popcorn. Than we seen nachos.. Than we seen candy.. Honestly the popcorn would of been 6 bucks and let's not talk bout drinks.. And for those of you who say sneak it in. Usually we do that but honestly this time we didn't stop to the store and spend more money. So we thought it best to just ride the movie out. When we got out of the movie on the way home it's like 9pm. And we were both hungry. We started talking on what we were gonna have at home for dinner. Well he said I'll prob. just go to bed. And of course me being concerned I said it's not good for you to go to bed hungry. So once we discussed it. And since we didn't spend any money at the theater that'd it be ok if we went out to burger king. Since we would be spending less than what we would of spent at the movie theater. So we did go out and spent $10 bucks. So Day 21 you could say we failed. Or from what I got from a previous poster we made it 20 days lets not think of it as failing but move on and see how much farther we can get this time. I truly think that's the way I'm gonna look at it.

You know what? $10 is not a lot. Think about how much better you're doing than you were in December.

You're doing much better. And your next try will be much better. I think I went out the same night you did, and I bet we can both make it even longer before we go out for dinner again.

I'm sure we can make it even longer this time. Actually since we did go out I haven't felt like going out to eat. So maybe it's a good thing our food that night wasn't as good as normal. Makes us appreciate what we work on to make our own food.

Hi! Well After I get to $10.00 I will officially be quitting mylot atleast for awhile. Hubby and I are going to be moving in with another relative and we'll have to pay our way, so it will definitely be a test to see if we can do it. We'll be able to move back home if we can't make it, but we're going to try our best. I'm going to clip coupons, we have some things that are a 'must' whether it be a specific brand or a specific food, but other things we could slide with, and since we only have a handful of things that we do get, we should be able to get things cheaper by either going to the dollar store, or buying the cheaper brand. This will be the first time hubby and I are going to be out on our own with so much responsibility. We're recently married, I've been out on my own but not with a lot of responsibility, so this will be a true test for both of us. I feel we're ready, I've gotten a lot of knowledge on frugality from mylot and other websites. Of course, some things can be "made" like detergents for instance, or even soaps. melt down a lot of almost gone bar soaps and then put it in a mold and let it harden, then take it out and you've got a fresh bar of soap. Penny Pinchin' Grandma, I need to go back to that site, it just popped in my head, I hope it helps you.

Yes don't quit mylot. I work at a library and you can use the computers for at least an hour. I will have to check out the Penny Pinchin Grandma site. 20 days is great. Keep up the good work. Also you made a smart choice by not buying the food at the movie cause that would have cost alot more than the $10 you did spend. I have been enjoying readying your posts. We need to start saving more money too as we are really trying to get out of debt. So thanks for sharing your experiences.

I have made several nice meals at home that cost more than $10. I don't see that as failing at all! You were smart about your choices and yes you ate out but you didn't go overboard. Be proud of yourself for the way you did it and just get back on track.

yes I'm starting not to think of it as a bad choice because we did make good choices at the theater which could of been worst than what we did spend. The bad choice was going out to eat there and not tasting as good as it use to. I think our bodies are getting adjusted to the healthier food than eating take out. Which is a good thing too.

It's all a matter of views. Like you said, you didn't fail on day 21. Instead, you successfully made it to 20 days without spending. And as reward, you get to spend less than what would have been more if you had to pay for the movie. Let's not forget the big picture here. The lesson is how to sustain and maintain a reasonable spending habit. And I think you're successful at it. If you want to prove it again, then go another 20 days. Goodluck.

your right. Learning to maintain a lifestyle is incorporating things you enjoy since as dining out. I'm sure we can make another 20 days again. Just working on longer than that. One day at a time and we'll get there.
