The type of investments you make depends in part on your age. If you are under 45, you will still be working and earning more, so you can afford to take more risk. Risk brings with it the possibility for greater earnings, but can also go the other way. The current economy has changed investment strategy a lot. All the Boomers are getting out of the market and are going for things like tax free muni bonds. Their flood of the market has lowered the interest rates to around 3%. I have been investing for my father who is 87 and at that age, lower risk is wise. The tax free muni bonds have been great and he pays no tax on considerable earnings. Tax free bonds or bond funds are more important to higher tax bracket people. If you are in the lowest bracket, you can earn more with taxable bond funds. Franklin Templeton has some great bond funds. Nuveen has some good tax free muni bond funds. Make sure you get into a fund that has bonds in other countries, like Canada. Don't invest in anything long term. You want short to intermediate duration investments since we have no idea what is going to happen and you could have money tied up at a lower rate and not be able to move it. I'd stay out of individual stocks right now. Mutual Funds can leverage earnings against losses to create better average returns. Funds are a good way to invest with only 8 grand. Plus, you can add to them in increments as money becomes available to you. The days of double digit earnings are long gone, so check into the companies I've told you about. Their people will guide you. And...you are right to invest. Don't work for your money - let your money work for you...right?

I propose to avoid HYIP programs. They are most of the time scams

Investing in "GeniusFunds" is good decision. There are providing different plans ranges from 10$ to 300$. The interest rates they are paying was 1 to 1.9% per day, 6 to 9% per week and 14% to 25% per month.
