At what age did you get your first apartment?

Just curious to know. I have a friend who is 19 and getting his own apartment in less than a month! I feel like this is a bit rushed, as I (and many of my friends who are around my age) personally are no where near being able to afford paying for an apartment.
When did you get your first apartment?
And when do you think is the "right" age to get an apartment? Or is there even one?

Hi, maezee. I got my first apartment when I was 25 years old. I think that if a person is responsible and is able to afford to pay rent, then they should have their own apartment. They have to also want to have their own place without always staying with someone else too.

We were 18, we moved out the January after we graduated. I could not wait to move out and was actually ready way before that. I lived in quite a string of apartments, townhouses, rental houses and not once did I ever consider moving back in with my parents. But I was lucky enough to have steady employment that paid well and nothing ever happened to force me back there either. I don't think there's a right age to move out, it's different for everyone. Starting out when you're young and a little financially strapped does teach you to budget though. I know quite a few people who lived with their parents until they bought a house but I don't really agree with that. Renting sucks but it's kind of a right of passage. It really does make you appreciate home ownership more.

I got my first apartment when I was 22. I moved out of home to try and finish college and I decided that I'd stay and try and find a full time job because where I'm from originally would have made it quite hard to find a job in my line of work. Our decision on where we moved was quite rushed and I was very, very, very worried about how it would all work out but so far we're doing pretty darn good.
I don't think there is a right age to get an apartment. I think it depends on the person. Are they mature and responsible? Do they have a job? Are they finanically smart? If they aren't any of the above I doubt it would be a wise idea to let them get an apartment until they wisened up.

I was in dormitories when I was in university. And I even stayed in one after I graduated and started to look for a job. But, as soon as I got a job, and started making my own money, I got a place all to myself. Sure, it was a crappy apartment, but it was all to myself.
