Has anyone ever had an iPod stop working?

I've had an ipod for about 2 years now. I use it every day, listening to it on the train on the way to work, which is a boring 45 minute ride, and theno n the way home, too. Anyway, recently it stopped working. I'm not sure what the problem is. It will turn on, and it will recognize all the songs that are on it, but it won't play any of them. When I connect it to iTunes, nothing happens. iTunes works fine, but I can't access anything on my iPod. I wonder if it's a harddrive problem or something. Do you think I should take it to an Apple repair center? Or what about buying the parts and trying to fix it myself? ( http://www.repairsharks.com/ ) Or maybe taking it to a non licensed place that still knows how to fix Apple products? Or should I just buy a new ipod instead? And I thought Apple products weren't supposed to malfunction! What have you done when your ipod stopped working? Thanks!
