The Strangest Thing I Ever Heard (Well, not Ever, but Pretty Close)

I watched the movie "Milk" yesterday. In it, there was a scene with a young, gay man from Minnesota, Paul. He was in a wheelchair and Harvey Milk told him to run away because the young man said his parents were going to send him to an ex-gay institution. Just as Paul tells him he can't walk, the line goes dead. Everybody in the movie thinks that Paul is either at some horrible ex-gay institution which I don't imagine is very accessible, especially in the 1970s or has killed himself. About an hour and a half later when the big campaign to oppose proposition 6 is going on, Harvey calls his friend in LA to see how the campaign is going there. Paul answers the phone and tells Harvey who he is. He didn't kill himself and is not in an institution. He's alive and he's alright.
Being me, I had to go find out if Paul was real and still exists. On a ex-gay website, I found someone who claims to be the basis for the character of Paul. He says that he talked to Harvey Milk and Don Amador, another prominent gay activist at the time and they told him to run away, which he did. He says that after Harvey died, all of his gay friends abandoned him and he somehow became an ex-gay. He has a very disturbing quote, even to someone like myself who is a very active person of faith. He said "I gave up my desire to date guys, so I could date Jesus." If I were to meet him face-to-face, I would point out that Jesus is a guy. Secondly, I don't think he cares who you sleep with. If he does and if heterosexuality is mandated, I'm already in a bunch of trouble. Does this quote bother anyone else?
