Why do some people need to be told what they should think and say?

I have seen numberous discussion on here about talking points from talking heads. Yet, when I ask them to tell me what THEY want to change they either have no answer for me, or are vague. Why is it that some people on here only spew talking points without providing example of what THEY think?

My guess would be because they either haven't really thought it through or don't have enough information in order to form an opinion of their own. Of course, there are those who simply like to regurgitate anything that feeds their personal hatred and don't care whether it's logical...or even factual.

I guess it's because they've gotten so used to it being done that way. After all, for all those years Fox News got their talking points from the White House so their commentators were basically told what to think. Then there are the Republicans in Congress with their robot like way of being in lockstep with one another no matter what. That's simply all the "good conservatives" know! Annie

That is rather interesting coming from someone who's opinions are typically whatever Obama or left wing blogs say they should be. You supported a bill while admitting you couldn't name one specific thing in it that was good. In another thread you basically said you believed troops were being sent to fight Sadaam Hussein in 2008 in an effort to criticize Sarah Palin. Since I don't think you believe that, the only logical conclusion is that you got it from a left wing blog.

If that's true Annie, then why did you say that Sarah Palin "proved" she thought Sadaam Hussein was behind 9-11 when she said "You'll be there to defend the innocent from the enemies who planned and carried out and rejoiced in the deaths of thousands of Americans," to the troops deploying to fight al Quaeda in Iraq in 2008? The only thing I can gather is that you either believed our troops were being sent to fight Hussein, or that you were repeating what you heard on a blog without thinking of what was actually said or who our troops were fighting. http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/2226668.aspx?p=1#2_20633771 Please don't try to tell me you don't read blogs. With the possible exception of one other person in politics (whose posts I rarely read)you read and source blogs more than anyone else on mylot.

I agree with you Annie, it is so funny how all of these representatives agree all the time. It is like we have elected Lemmings.

Thinking for yourself takes effort. Some people are just too lazy for that. It's much easier to regurgitate things stated by those who you agree with. Of course anyone too lazy to think for themselves, is also too lazy to factcheck the person who is thinking for them which leaves them thoroughly incapable of defending their second-hand point of view.

I agree with you Taskr, the reason I started this discussion is because of the right wing talking points about regulation. I have yet to hear one person tell me what needs to be deregulated, but all of these right wingers just scream deregulate, deregulate, and that is it.

I don't see it that way. I can think for myself and in this day and age of news and commentary the left can say whatever they want and its deemed gospel. When the right talks about what the left is doing they are demonizing them. Its nice to have an agreement on issues but when it becomes a bully pulpit because the whole Obama admin is trying to control how people get their news I don't mind it when somebody on the right tells the truth and you know its the truth or the left wouldn't throw fits like spolied little babies since they have had carte blache for way too long.

Git, didn't the Bush administration do the same thing by selected who could attend rallies, and who got exclusive interviews with the president and key staff members? Bush also tried to control the media by using the department of homeland security as a press tool to distract Americans using the terror threat level. The reason I started this discussion is the right wing talking points about deregulation, yet I have not found one person who knows what we need to deregulate. What do you want to deregulate Git? The BANKS???????

We need to deregulate the lawyers who sue for astronomical amounts so that it drives the cost of everything up. It isn't about Bush using the media to further his agenda, what I think you fail to realize is that we did not have an attack on American soil after 9/11, if that was his agenda I'm still in his corner. Obama and his dolts want to regulate the insurance companies, the banks, the auto industry. Of course there is concern, or do you plan to hand your 401K contents over to this "unqualified to run a Popsicle stand administration"? If so, you can go first.

Git, LAWYERS AREN'T REGULATED!!! How can you deregulate something that isn't regulated in the first place? "It isn't about Bush using the media to further his agenda, what I think you fail to realize is that we did not have an attack on American soil after 9/11, if that was his agenda I'm still in his corner." First off, we didn't have any terrorist attacks on US soil BEFORE Bush either, should we honor all of the other presidents that did this? Second, What do you call the Anthrax attacks? How about the shoe bomber? "Obama and his dolts want to regulate the insurance companies, the banks, the auto industry." First the insurance companies are charging outrageous amounts of money, and in most states are a monopoly. Do you really want to go down the road of the banks? These fools almost sent us all back to the stone age, and still are ignorant to their own actions. Let me remind you that acts that led to the Bush repression were very similar to what happened before the great depression, at that time Congress passed the Glass-Steagall act to stop this from ever happening. In the late 90's the banks spent $200 million plus to have that repealed, and less than ten years later look what happened. And you really want to DEREGULATE THEM MORE????????????????? "Of course there is concern, or do you plan to hand your 401K contents over to this "unqualified to run a Popsicle stand administration"? If so, you can go first." This is the same thing that they said about Clinton. Did you have a 401K under Clinton? I can tell you right now that my 401K had a lot more in it before our former brain donor of a president then when he finally left office. By the way didn't Bush the country in the worse financial shape in 70 years? I wouldn't trust Bush with YOUR MONEY!!!

..hi thegreatdebater.. I would simply say that we have different levels of intelligences.. We can never expect somebody to think the way we think because have different perceptions of things.. Its either they cannot really comprehend or they are just too preoccupied that's why they can't think clearly.. this is also one reason why other people are dominant over the others.. because if everybody is intelligent, then there will always be arguments to be raised because everybody wants to speak out their minds.. If you realize, not all people are given high IQ to easily understand things or situations.. there are alwasy those who are on top and who are behind.. and maybe, you are one of those people gifted with higher level of intelligence.. you just have to understand those people who can't easily grasp things..

Because they get all their "news" from the meida who feeds thoughts and ideas to them...instead of taking the time to fully research an issue on their own and come up with their own conclusions.

I have to agree with you Lil, I wish that more people would actually look into what they are told, and think for themselves.
