there is a lan between me and my friend. we established lan through a modem. modem has 2 output, one is lan and other is usb. i get the the lan connection from modem and my friend using the usb connection. lan is working fine, we can share data, play games.now we had a dial up connection for internet. we both want to use the internet at same time. but only one person is able to dial the number (whoever dials first) and use the internet. i too used internet, but at the same time he can't, but we can share data at meantime. if i am using internet, he try to dial and make a connection, he get a error message "phone line is busy ". any solution that we both can use internet at thje same time.:-)

try networking the 2computers with a router and use the network setup for xp it should guide thruogh the process of connecting to another computers internet connection. there are several options to choose from, remeber you have to setup up each computer individually depending on how you want it to network, restart may be required

Now a days most modems have the options of adding three to five computers in one modem itself. I think router also helps to connect the network better.

i dont think its possible for you two to use dial the number at the same time. also since you use dial up connection, i strongly recommend you, not to share your connection at the same time cause dialup means max of 10-20 kbps and now if u divide that too then things will get worse and none of you will get to enjoy the net

Routers is one of the thing that helps to share the internet. Switch is another thing that helps to share the internet. Now a days the modems comes with three to five USB ports in which people are able to share the internet.

I think you can share the internet by connecting two internet lan cards in a computer and one lan card for modem and another lan card for the computer. The speed of the internet will be slow as both computers work at the same time.

actually only one that can be connected to the internet, others only follow when we have a local area network. And we must set the IP address of each computer with the same class. Which connected to the Internet it said the server can manage who gets access to data from the Internet.

No. The dial up feature of the modem means whoever dialed first locks the modem into a 'call made' status. Its like picking up the phone while someones on it and trying to make a call over the top of them using a 2nd handset.
