I am buying stamps at the automated machine at the post office. After the purchase the screen displays this message, "I am printing your receipt." I'm like, "I"? Just say, "printing receipt." Don't make it look like the machine is "thinking" about it! Or you know those machines you get when you are trying to reach a real person who can actually think.. it says something like, "I didn't understand you could you please repeat your last response?" OF course you didn't understand you're a frickin' machine!! What's your favorite human to machine relationship!?!

It's a matter of taste. The company using the machine/recording is trying to make a more humanlike encounter of the situation, and for a lot of people, it works pretty well. Some systems are effective and interactive enough that some customers can't tell if they are dealing with a human or a machine. On the other side of it, I have worked in customer service call centers for the last nine years, and I have one of those oft-imitated voices, so customers will ask me now and then ask me if I'm a person. Some even consider it a compliment to tell me I sound like a recording.

That's funny! I haven't had the pleasure of hearing one that sounds like a person yet! I don't mind the machines for the most part, but don't try to trick me into thinking that they are so personal when they are not! lol!! I'm glad they work for some! And really there are some I don't mind.
