I have been knitting since I was 8 years old and is what I do in most of my free time. What I would say to you is get some books or look on the internet and learn just the knit and purl stitches. Since these are your primary stitches when knitting. Make a scarf which is really simple. Try and master those two stitches. Once you have done that move on to some different stitches and maybe do a baby blanket or something.
I know too many crafts and haven't found a new one that I already don't know. So I have been doing a mixture this winter like.... knitting a blanket, making jewlery, sewing a quilt which is almost done, painting a picture of a mountian that is near me, um.. not really a craft but I have been painting a couple rooms in my house too.
Well, I hope you like knitting and best of luck to you!

I used Coats and Clarks Knitting tutorials to learn how to knit years ago after learning to knit. You can look into that or look up knitting basics on youtube. I am sure there are videos on knitting. Also I like the book Visually Knitting. If you need patterns too, check out knittingpatterncentral.com.

I am not learning any new crafts this winter because I am busy with all the crafting I usually like to do (I am trying to be ready for Christmas in advance and to use up some of my craft supplies).
If you are learning to knit and don't have anyone to show you, there are some good youtube videos.

I taught myself to knit from books. I would say that if you are finding your fingers getting tied in knots take out some books and read the different styles. The needles are held differently in different countries, you may find one way easier for you then others.
