Oddest place to hide?

We, as people, can be very innovative when we wish to be undisturbed or dodge someone. Whether it was in your childhood or adulthood, where was the oddest or most unique place you've ever hidden from someone? Why were you hiding and from whom? My oddest place was perhaps when my daughters were nearly teens and a couple of times, when I just plain needed to make a decision with some peace, I hid on top of the dirty clothes basket in my closet...doors closed. They never did find out about that, for I seldom used it. I didn't feel quite so weird though when a friend recently told me she had used the same way to hide lol. Karen

I never had a hiding place after i had my own home. if needed i would just go in my room & shut the door & IF I WAS UPSET W/MY BOYS THEY KNEW THAT MEANT 'leave me alone' till i got it together, lol. When i was a teenager i finally talked my parents into letting me move to an attic room to get away from them & i wanted to do that quite often.

Good morning, Jo I think perhaps that is the best and most comfortable place to use as a hide-away...a room of one's own. Preferrably with a lock on the door lol. I hope your day goes well. Karen

Oh my! I am glad you are okay, Jo. Must be "something in the air," as I went outside last night to snap a picture of it snowing by the streetlights. Coming back down the stairs, as the landlord has not yet replaced the bulb in the foyer, I missed the bottom step and ended up twisting an ankle and a wrist, but the wall caught me. I bumped my head, but I'm okay lol. Ugh! Scary though to fall.

I used to act to sleep. Yes when I found my mom and my aunt is talking about me I act to sleep. They used to believe I am sleeping but I was getting their discussions.

LOL, Ejosh. My daughters used to do this when very young and I would try to teach them how to play hide-and-seek. They would run to a corner and sit there and put their hands over their eyes...still in plain sight...and yell out, "Okay, Mama, find me!" So cute!

Hello Esjosh How creative to hide in the open by simply pretending to be asleep. And yes, that would be a wonderful way to listen in on the conversations of others and know what they are thinking! Thank you for your comment. Karen

Hi Dawn...those are all very good choices...especially if you STILL hide under the bed...who would think to look for a mom there? LOL Karen

Hi Ann Yes, closets and places like them would not be welcome to someone who is claustrophobic! You idea of just hiding out in your bedroom is good, though...especially since you have the small fridge in there :)) Karen

Intersting topic!! When I was growing up I had 3 siblings and we were all within 5 years of age of one another. On the side of our house were 3 Huge willow trees by a creek. Well if you craweled under the branches of one of the trees there was a nice little seat that was almost carved into the embankment. When I was overwhelmed with my siblings or fighting with my sister whom I shared a room with, that's where I'd go. I was completely hidden inside the beauty of the branches of the willow trees and the dappled sunlight and the gurgling brook would always soothe me! And I could watch the tadpoles as they played and chased each other. I still miss that wonderful little spot! Tho now I'd go there to meditate and enjoy rather than hide! At least most days! Thanks for bringing back a small memory of a special magical spot! Be Well!!

Hello Tally...thank you! You place beneath the willow tree sounds like a little piece of heaven! The whole scene, with the sunlight and shadows and the brook and tadpoles just sounds delightful. I would have loved such a place myself...still would! Thank you for sharing that. Karen

Hi Karen, I hid myself inside the bathroom just to keep me from going out and attending to a suitor whom i am so scared with during my highschool days. my parents informed that if there is someone who wants to court me--he should visit me at home and not anywhere especially in the streets. so, upon learning these one of my suitors made a visit. i was so childish and really don;t know what to do then-- so, to simplify things i just hid myself inside the bathroom. LOL.

Hi Ms LOL, I think you chose a good place to hide from a potential suitor...not many will break in on someone who is in the bathroom. Very creative solution for a teen. Karen

yes i had that in mind that's why i chose that area to hide. i succeeded. but of course he's so persistent that's why in his fourth visit i entertained him already. my parents and siblings were teasing me for finally facing my suitor. it was so embarrassing for me then.

Hi Gabs. How are you and Gissi? Five-year-olds are innovative and very small, so yes, they can hide, even in the long grass. Oh, for the days of being able to climb a tree again! But I wouldn't even attempt it these days. Karen

Children are so cute...and the places they love to play, hide, or yes, fall asleep are sometimes unique and adorable. I found one of my own toddlers sound asleep in her toy box one day. She'd removed all the toys and was laying in their with her favorite blanket...fast asleep. Karen

Hello Karen, I would have to say that I tend to be hiding a lot lately Hehehe...my kids are ten and eight and are at that perfect age where they are picking up on all of mom and dads conversations and asking a billion and one questions on top of that. While I have told myself that I will be honest with my kids and answer all their questions no matter how hard, I find that I just want to get away from all of their questions. I find that I like to hide out in the bathroom even though I may not be using then or I hide away down in the basement doing laundry or even at times just pretending too LOL They always find me though but i am more than not usually able to at least get away for 10 to 15 minutes which many times is all I need...

Hello Froggies Kids that age and even younger are full of questions, and they do tend to follow us about with them lol. It can be good to hide away for a while and "rest." As you said, they'll usually find us, but yes, even a few minutes can do the trick :) Karen

I love that story. For me the best place to hide is in plain site. I hide at home. I just don't answer the door or the phone. The car is in the garage with the blinds pulled. My TV is on all the time so no one ever knows when I'm home or not. I just hide sometimes because I don't want to be bothered. There are times I need to have peace and quiet. I just lock my door and ignore the outside world.

Good for you, Rose. I have done that myself, for like you, I just needed some solitude in a very hectic world. It's good to do that in the comfort of your own home. Karen

Well I have my so called "inaanak" and every christmas, she always go to our house and get presents. What I will do is in christmas day, I would hide from her so that I would not have to give her any present. Not a good idea really. Also when I was a child, when I play hide and seek during the full moon, I'll hide in a comfort room and nobody will find me there.

Hello to you :) I think many of us have "hidden" before to avoid someone or something, and there's really nothing so wrong with that. And a comfort room sounds wonderful. I appreciate your response. Karen

That kind of a hiding place would never work for me. However, my house is a cape cod and thus has two side attic areas. And in both of those there are lights so they make the perfect place for me to go for a little while if I can't handle the kids any more for a period of time. I've only used this a couple of times, but I can certainly tell you that it works wonders when I need a short break from the hustle and bustle of the house.

I would go to my neighbour's the one neighbour we never normally visited so no one could spot me there. It would be mostly to hide and eat something that we were forbidden to eat.

Hallo...when I was small , I was sharing one room with my brother. I remembered that day was his birthday, I have prepared a card for him. When he woke up , I still pretended I was sleeping. When he went to bathroom, I put a card in the wardrobe, then I rolled up the mattress with me inside the mattress. Then he came in, he saw the rolled up mattress he thought I already woke up, but he didn't see me. At the time he opened up the wardrobe to take out his clothes...silently I flattened the mattress with me still lying on it....so he was so surprised when he holding the card and looked back I was still sleeping there...ha ha ha...

Hi Asanlee LOL, now that was a very clever surprise, and I imagine it delighted your brother. Hm, a rolled up mattress would indeed be a good place to hide away for a while :)) Karen

I would drive off and literally hide in my car, boy my car has been my saving grace on many an occasion! When I rowed with my ex and that was often I would grab my keys, didn't care what attire I was dressed in (it was decent!) and drive off, because driving calmed me down and more often or not my ex would be upstairs and I would sneak out the back way and drive off and hide somewhere so I could relax and have my time (as per your last discussion) my car was my lifeline, my therapist and my link to sanity. When I was a child I used to love dark spaces and would happily hide under the stairs, the spiders didn't bother me, I had a few bears with me a blanket and a pillow and I would snuggle up in there, I always seem to be escaping people, because back then it was my father I was hiding from. I still see and remember that cupboard with fondness even now

Great hiding skills there I must say! Personally I think that one of the oddest places to hide would be in a fish tank, but I've never tried it myself? When I was a child and in trouble, I used to hide on the roof of the house! I had a perfect place too. It was the section just behind the garage and if I laid down at just the right angle, I could see and hear the TV in the room below!

Hi James LOL, you'd have to shrink a great deal or find a very large fish tank! But it might be fun...peaceful, yes? Kudos on finding a spot on the roof where you could still view the TV...very creative :) Karen

it make me think about something.it is very old thing.when i was child,i like fruit and often eat too much until i feel stomach.especially when i make dinner,i could not be willing to eat anything.it make my mother angry.so she buy the fruit and often hide them at the oddest place, but i finally find them because the fruits have good smell,i often find them through the smell.it is very interesting for me to find them.if my mother know i am clever to do like that,i believe that she would find the better place and better way to hide them.

Hello Bingchen When we are children, we do seem to have great skill at finding the places our parents might hide those foods we love. And yes, the delicious smell of fruit would eventually let you find it :)) Thank you for responding. Karen

To escape and hide I usually drive. I would make up some excuse so to pick up something, so just I could get out of the house and be alone. A couple of times though, I've hidden in my son's closet. Sometimes he's such a slob that he just throws and picks up clothes in front of the closet that he wouldn't ever know if somebody was inside if the doors are closed.

Hello Bounce Yes, going alone to run an errand, or using any other excuse to get out of the house...that is creative. And I'm glad to know I am not the only one that has found a closet to be a wonderful place to hide out for a while and just be alone lol. Karen

I enjoy just being with myself and there are times that I don't want to be disturbed. So, I hide in a certain spot where no one can find me, and I do that every dawn or every evening. The place is in our roof. Not roof top but roof, and for me to get there I climb the mango tree that it as tall as our house. I go there and look at the sky and wait for shooting stars and wish, I already forgot what I wished for but I was so realized and felt peace everytime I'm there. I also bring my recorder with me and talk just about everything and then play back. Sometimes I sing with my guitar or just listen to the music mostly christmas music.

Hello Clouds Your rooftop hideaway sounds beautiful. I love to watch the sky, day or night, and being in the roof would indeed give you the peace and quiet to just enjoy the sky and be alone with your thoughts and then record them. Thank you for telling us about it :) Karen
