Is KFC your hot favourite inspite of charges from PETA/Greenpeace?

Hi Mylotters!!! Every single person loves KFC chicken in their area. The finger licking good chicken giant, however, faces charges from PETA for mistreatment of chickens by its suppliers like chopping off their beaks, killing them in controlled atmosphere condiitons! Greenpeace has accused KFC of destroying the amazon rainforest cover for its supply of Soy. In 2007, several videos showing rats running wild in KFC restaurant were shown on TV stating the unhygenic conditions of the restaurants's food preparation area. These reasons are enough to make one ponder before buying a KFC snack ! Are you bothered about what these accusations have to say or you just can't get over your favourite snack inspite of all such allegations and risks to health and environment?

Regarding the allegations made by PETA, I have seen the chickens being treated much worse by our local chicken traders. They just put the chicken in the boiling water and kill them. One day when I saw how they killed the chickens. I stopped eating chickens for a very long time. Everytime I used to see a Chicken dish, this killing always came to my mind. But then you cannot expect people to take only vegetables and fruits.Thank god I am not in South Korea, where they even take dog meat or in South Africa where they take elephant meat. Regarding the green peace video, I have not seen that video, and in my place, KFC restaurant looks very clean and hygenic.

Hi rameshkumaar57! it is really sad to hear that animals are treated in such a manner for eating. It enforces a feeling of guilt in non-vegetarians when we come across such a treatment. However you talking about KFC being clean in your local area can be just a superficial judgement. The unhygenic conditions were noted in the KFC kitchens in the USA joint. And as for customers, we can never know how things are inside the kitchen?! Can we?

KFC is far from my favoruite dining place, I can tell you that much. It doesn't take a genius to guess that KFC probably doesn't treat their poultry with as much care as they could do, ut haven't we been hearing this sort of story for years now? The fact of the matter is that KFC offer a fast-food service, and in order to meet such demands, they don't necessarily have the time to look after their chickens.

that's NO excuse. I'm sure people used to use the same sort of excuse to continue slave labour. just because people want to buy cheap, tortured chicken doesn't make it right.

Are you kidding me? Chickens- living breathing beings- deserve to get treated like that just so our increasingly rotund American people can eat fatty, fried meat that's horribly laced with growth hormones and antibiotics? I highly reccomend for you to see the documentary "Food Inc."

allegations would be the key here. I don't believe a thing PETA says. So this discussion just makes me crave some original recipe!

exactly your point miravu! KFC at one time was also in news for paying only minimum wages to its employees. Later this was taken up as they had no worker unions. At some places still they pay only minimum wages to its workers.

I'm not a big fan of PETA either. I lived on a small farm that raises beef cattle. I know farmers that have chicken houses. I've seen factory farms, chicken processing plants, and "stink plants". I'm a vegetarian but I've also brought a cow to the butcher and carried it out in boxes. The issues around the horrendous treatment of animals in factory farms is absolutely true. If animals aren't your concern, you might be shocked to hear that some unreputable facilities employ workers who have to endure horrific working conditions either at the factory farms, in slaughterhouses or at the processing plants, where in the US of A we really do have people living in virtual slavery.

I don't love KFC. the last time I had it, I remember that it was greasy, slimy and horrible. when I pass the one in the town where I work, it SMELLS disgusting. it just stinks of rancid burnt fat. I haven't eaten KFC in years because I don't buy factory farmed meat. I won't knowingly fund cruelty. PETA are a ridiculous group, but it's not just extreme groups that are against cruel farming methods. you can raise something for meat without abusing it it's whole life.

Hi Galena Its true that an animal can be raised under good conditions for slaughter. With KFC , its been an issue of those unimaginably cruel conditions that the chicks have been exposed to by the suppliers. ITs really good to know that you dont support factory-farmed meat. Keep it up!

I do not know from where KFC procures its chicken in India, but usually the chickens are bred in quite good conditions in our country. I have seen some poultrys in India, where the chicken are bred, and in all fairness I can say it is not bad. Regarding KFC in our city, all the KFC outlets are in swanky malls, and there is no stand alone KFC restaurant in our city.usually they are quite clean. The only problem , they do not give you drinking water and force you to buy a soft drink or a bottled water.

Oh! I just had lunch there yesterday! The hygene issue, however, can only be applicable to some branches or restaurants but of course not all of their branches. The mistreatment of chicken should be charged to their supplier and not to KFC. Also, the issue about the Soy should be redirected to the company who supplies them with that.

Hey sharlionse Its true that the hygiene issue would vary from outlet to outlet. It depends on the management. But rules are rules and they should be followed! About mistreatment of chickens, KFC was charged because its them who ask for that huge supply of chicken which becomes virtually impossible for suppliers. SO they try all means to breed more and more and hence the beak chopping comes into picture as they try to accomodate more and more chickens in a single coup!!! Now for the soy factor, they have not been getting it through suppliers, but directly, as reported.

In my country, the local supplier of the chicken doesn't treat the chicken bad. the chicken being slaughtred in good ways because here we have a monitoring agent to make sure that the chicken is slaughteren in proper way. I dont know about the destruction of amazon fores, it that is true, I just hope that there will be another way to fulfill their supply of soy. about the video of rats running wild in KFC restaurant... hmmm... may I know in what country does it happen? because I never seen rats in KFC restauran and every KFC restaurants are being evaluate by mistery shopper twice per month include the hygin of the restaurant. I can say that because I work as mistery shopper for them in my town, and they do have hygin standard for the restaurant.

do they use free range chicken? the issue isn't how they are slaughtered, it's how they are raised in inhumane conditions.

well in my opinion the chicken ranch here in my country doesnt torture the chicken , of course the chicken is raised inside a big cage like a small sport hall so they can move freely.

I'm a vegetarian. So, I wouldn't eat a KFC anyway. Even if there is a vegetarian option at KFC or any other fast food place, I don't eat there because I don't want to support factory farming. I'm not a member of PETA and I'm not one of those millitant vegan types. But, I used to live on a small farm and I've seen what farming is like. I prefer to support small farms than the more inhumane factory farms and slaughterhouses.

As biased as PETA can be, that kind of animal treatment really does happen- it's one of the main reasons why I chose not to eat any meat. It really breaks my heart to see that people can regard animals as "meat machines"- they are living beings just like us.

Its just that they are below us in the food chain and hence Man has tried to rightly claim it as his food :( Even i tried to stop having meat. I succeeded but there are times when i feel the urge to eat some! Its tough!

It is a bit strange that in the east bay of california where I live has only a small number of KFC restaurants. Most of them stay empty! So I am guesing that they don't do good business around here. There is one near my house which is in joint venture with Tacobell. But its funny that whoever goes to that restaurant orders tacos and not kfcs. I am not a fan of KFC at all. It seems like the chickens taste the same. But I really love their burgers. They are different from the rest.

hmm its true that KFC is a good food chain but its not the top of my list, i always go for Jollibee ( a local hit food chain)( they serve much better food than KFC for me so i dont have to worry about KFC and all that cuz i dont eat there often
