I was wondering if free anti spyware works better than or just as good as what you pay for?Does it really protect the computer?I'm so not happy with what I have,I believe it screws up my computer and slows it down.I want to remove it ,but I don't want to be with out any,I don't think anyone should go online at all with out any protection for their computer.Which one would you reccomend?

The top free antivirus programs are Avira, Avast and AVG (in no particular order). All of them do about as good a job as the paid antivirus solutions. What you tend to pay for with others is the extra features (such as a firewall and antispyware solutions). Norton, in particular, is known for using more memory and slowing down the PC. It is certainly one to be avoided.
For free antispyware, Spybot S&D and Adaware are the two that I recommned. Spybot, in particular, has a module that constantly checks for malicious programs and will block them. An adequate free firewall is Zonealarm.
If you have one of the above AV products, SpyBot and Zonealarm, and keep them updated you shouldn't experience any problems. If you are experiencing noticeable slowing down of the PC when running these very necessary programs, the most effective solution is to increase the amount of RAM.

Norton, particularly, has a reputation for making PCs sluggish. Make sure that you remove it completely before installing any other AV product. I used to use AVG but have recently changed to Avast because it currently has higher ratings. On the whole, I like it. It updates automatically several times a week. The only thing that annoys me is that it TELLS me (in an annoying voice) every time it does, which can play havoc if I'm recording something, and I haven't yet found how to make it silent!

buddy i m using avira free addition it constantly update my computer daily,i recommend you to use avira plus adware as avira free edition does not detect the spywares so install both of them then you will not face any problem!regards

Adaware has to be run manually periodically and only really deals with 'adware' (though it detects some 'spyware'. SpyBot S&D has a small utility called 'TeaTimer' which constantly checks for anything of a spyware nature and prevents it from installing.

I have used spybot and adware, but now I am using Microsoft Security Essentials, which is both an antivirus and spyware together. It does the job as it catches any alien spywar or viruses. I didn't even know that Microsoft had an antivirus, and I am glad that I decided to download and install it. It seems to do better than Avast did, as I used it for awhile but it seemed to always pop up a warning about a virus, and i got tired of thet as I would scan my computer and I didn't have any, so I think it was like a false positive. Now that I have the Microsfot one on here, I have not had that. Take care, and happy mylotting.

~ Hi, Java09! The only free antivirus spyware which I know is AVIRA, and i have never worked with it, but one friend of mine, who I think doesn't understand so much from this things, but try to make a wrong impression, and he said me AVira is the best antivirus spyware, but the tests show something very different. I can't remember the name of the software, and will not try , because I don't want to lie you, but you better check some tests of some free lance companies , just like I have done, and I am very pleased with my antivirus software( it is not antivirus spyware)!!!

NO. a free anti spyware doesnt work as good as paid ones. this scenario is very similar to the real world.. do free government run schools, are better than private ones?
are samples better than the real products? (in some cases yes , but usually no)
the main difference between a paid and a free ASW is the scan engine.
remember, all the good things in life are either paid or illegal.

I don't know what you're talking about.I downloaded FREE ANTI SPYWARE and it works MUCH BETTER than the one I bought.I don't understand why you're comparing this to free sample products and public schools for,it don't make any sense. You don't make any sense.
