Should a teacher fully understand every one of the 16 English tenses?

To be an English teacher is a wonderful thing. But Enlgish language is so difficult in its grammatical questions, especially the multiple choice questions. Some of the questions are so strange that the tenses they checked has seldem been used in daily life, even in textbooks. I am wondering how much grammatical knowledge should an English teacher know before he can confidently stand behind the podium. By the way, does anybody have some useful and super grammar books to recommend? Any recommendation is appreciated!

I believe that a teacher should be able to give justice to what he or she teaches. If one was an English major, and now teaching English, then he or she must know the language really well. Enhancing communication skills also help in improving our grammar, we could catch our mistakes and say its correct usage much more easily.

depends on the level they are teaching. at least for beginners as long as they have a good knowledge of the more common tenses then it probably is not essential. i can't really recommend any grammar books because i have never used them but let me know if you have any questions about english grammar.

there are alot of grammar books available for sale. If you are hard in finding grammar books in Mandarin, you can try the english version (import books).
i am an english teacher myself and i learnt that you are not supposed to have Super Grammar but you need skills of communication.
How are you delivering your lessons to the students are worthier than your knowledge of grammar.
but it doesn't mean that you can just neglect grammar.
