Are you sticking to your diet? I have been eating more veggies and less meat. When I cut out meat I notice the energy levels soar. Today I'm having curly pasta with tomatoes.

hi there, I also love pasta with tomato sauce... but it is my routine to drink green tea before and after every meals. So whatever I ate I know I will not gain weight, for green tea helps in speeding metabolism.

Green tea is a great diuretic. It does speed up the metabolism.

I think it is because meat is heavy and carbohydrate is not. The more you eat meat, the more you feel the heaviness in your stomach resulting to decrease in your energy level. Regarding carbohydrates, it is not always good to always eat only carbohydrates, it will just more or less result into diabetes mellitus. Balance eating is the most appropriate when it comes to dieting. You shoudn't stop taking meat. I've read in a nutrition book that vitamin b12 (cyanocobalamin) can be found in fruits and vegetable, but only in meat is said to be the good source of it. Certain fruit and vegetable contains cyanocobalamin but if eaten by humans, it will be unavailable and will only be wasted. Cyanocobalamin is a good for the nervous system, and is necessary for red blood cell synthesis. Deficiency of this vitamin will lead to megaloblastosis, hyperglycemia, anemia and neuropathy.

About the stink, yes, the longer the food stays in the body, the stinkier it will become. Anyway, I heard that chewing the food well before swallowing helps to digest, absorb, and excrete faster and results to a not so offensive smell.

Great point about the B12 deficiency. The vegetarians that I know get a B12 shot twice a year.

Also meat take a long time to go through the system. Meat can stay in your colon for days. You can actually smell people that eat a lot of meat. They stink.

When my son was visiting we both went off our diets! He is working to be leaner and more muscular and I'm trying to lose a bunch of fat. But the White Castle called, and so did Rally's, both of which he doesn't have where he lives. Plus other things, of course! So now we're both sticking to our diets. I cut back on meat but didn't cut it out and probably won't completely. I'm eating more fruits and vegetables and when I snack I eat salt free rice cakes. Sometimes I'll dip them in fat free low cal and low salt ranch dressing--it sounds disgusting but it's delicious!

Oh White Castle. I remember those glorious burgers. I don't think we have them in Florida.

Have to try that green tea tip. I think that I'm about 80% successful in sticking to my diet. I want to lose 25 lbs this year and I took off 6 lbs in January. I agree with you about the energy levels when you eliminate meat. One of my goals was to elminate meat for 3 weeks from my diet and when the three weeks was over, I chose not to include it in my diet. I like eating this way but I know that for weight control purposes, I need to cut out some of the starches that I'm eating.

Load up on veggies and fruits, then you can still have an occasional potato. I am holding off until Lent which starts really soon.

What about starches. Do you eat a lot of rice and potatoes. Some vegetarians eat too much starch and not enough green foods and fruits.
