Does your dog chase vehicles?

We ride on the dirt roads it saves gas for us to use the back roads. There is several people on these roads that just let their dogs run wild. And have been chased by many dogs. We don't drive fast maybe 20mph on these roads not wise to go faster then that. So if a dog is chasing us we throw rocks at them to try and keep them from being hit. So my question to you who is responsible for your dog if it gets hit by a vehicle? Do you train your dog not to go out of the yard?

My dog doesn't because we don't let him lose outside. Even then, he would be much too lazy to run around chasing cars. Hehe. I had a dog who, while we walk him outside, would bark profusely at passing bicyclists. I don't know why! There is this dog who twice now has run alongside the cab that I was on, going to work. He stays very near the corner where I wait for the cab, and then would start running alongside once we move and go up the incline. Weird.

oh you bet I won't let him loose outside. He might be picked up and never returned to us! He is so adorable, and I don't think he would bite a dognapper. LOL :)Besides, there are always vehicles passing through, I'm afraid he might be run over.

Hi Verabear. I wonder why dogs do that. Seems like they don't like the tires on a vehicle. Just one of those things I guess. It is a good thing you don't let your dog lose outside by him self.

Hi 23uday. I think it is a good thing to drive slowly down these dirt roads not good on the tires or the shocks on a vehicle. If a dog chases our vehicle I will throw rocks at it to help keep it safe. If the dog gets ahold of a tire it will surely break its neck and kill it.

Yes, it happened to our dog too. When we get back home from work, they are just crazy to go out, so when we finally done with dinner and take them out for a walk, they just go wild! They chasing vehicles, bikes, etc. Everything that is running will be their target! haha... But they are not harmful, they just want to play with you!

Hi Vivianchen. Not a good thing. Hope you have them on a leash. That is a good way to get them hurt. I know they think it is fun and just being playful, but the driver of the vehicle isn't thinking about your dog they are thinking about what ever. But believe me your dog is the last thing on their mind. We had a dog killed a couple of years ago by being hit by a car. It wasn't a good site to see our baby dog being hit by that car and they didn't even slow down. It wasn't the drivers fault it was our fault cause we didn't teach him better.

Hi Elly. I hate it I think people should take more responsibility for their animals. When a dog chases us on these dirt roads we throw big rocks at them to help them learn that isn't a good thing. Our dog isn't allowed near the road we put up a fence so he can't get to the road but can still see the road. We had a dog hit by a car and the person didn't even stop. He was crossing the road to come back to the house. There was a dog in heat that he was chasing. It is our fault that we didn't have a fence up but if we had hit a dog we would at least stop. This person sped up when they seen us coming out. This is the reason we put up the fence so Sam won't get hit.

My friend's dog is a pug, and I used to joke that the reason pug nosed dogs have pug noses is that they keep on chasing parked cars. In all seriousness however, it is the owner's responsibility to keep their dogs safe. If you hit a dog(or any animal for that matter) while driving, and you didn't intentionally mean to do so, then you're probably not at fault. While some people may feel horrible for doing such an act, you really are doing the neighborhood a favor..

Hi Kexington and welcome to my lot. I think no matter what if you hit a dog or any animal chasing your vehicle it is not the drivers fault. Especially when the owner don't try to make the animal stop. We have driven by dogs that would chase us and the owner standing there looking at the dog and not saying a single thing. And then have the guts to scream leave my dog alone. One woman said this to me one day and I just plain told her to keep her dog out of the road and I wouldn't throw rocks at it. She bowed her head and sat down, she no longer tells me not to throw rocks at her dog. He still chases us though and seen him chase other cars.

it is an individual`s sole responsibility to keep his of her dogs or any other animal from causing danger to people. persons should find time to train there dogs and to keep them tied up in the yard. As for me my dogs are properly trained and i know that they are quite harmful so i make it my point of duty to tied them up in the yard.

Hi Damalimcpherson. I think it is the responsibility of the owner of the animal to keep the animal safe too. I just don't understand why more people don't stop and take care of their animals like it is a child cause they do have child like minds. We don't let Sam out without us and when he is out we put him in a fence so he can still run and play. It is a good thing that you tie your dog up. That shows responsibility on your behalf. It also shows that you love your dogs.
