Possessed Computer Or...?

Today something really odd happened with my computer! I had three internet sites up (Mylot, Facebook and I forget the third)...but here's what happened. The AUDIO (no picture) of a movie started playing. It was a movie I did not recognize...it was violent ( a lot of cussing and gun shots)... I checked every web page thoroughly for the source, nothing...and this wasn't just an add for a movie, this was the entire part of a movie playing. There was no DVD in my computer, I never watch movies on my computer so it wouldn't be any kind of weird memory thing...and again, I never heard the movie before. And when I managed to exit out of the internet, it stopped...wth!?

I tried to update my son's computer, because it said important update to windows. It won't even start up now. It says to uninstall software that was just put on, but won't even go into safe mode. There must be something with computers going on.

Mine comes up with a blue screen that says it has went to this screen to keep from harming the computer. it says to take off any newly installed hardware or programs, but will not even go in safe mode. I have someone coming to look at it this week but they did not sound promising.

thoroughrob hi I had something similar happen to me and my son had to take the hard disc home to his apt and check on his own computer, but he said if you either on purpose or accidentally shut your computer down when its still saving your settings it will disrupt something and you will not be able to start up or if you are updating to windows and it gets shut down during the process you also will not be able to use your computer as it abolishes one of the very importand files to start your computer with. mine is working fine now but am not sure yet what I did to mess everything up. sounds like some place in the updating went seriously wrong. wish I knew more about repairing these glitches in our computers.

Wow, Thoroughrob, it sounds like your problem is a little more serious than a phantom video if you cannot even boot into safe mode. Have you tried booting into last known good configuration? Was the Windows update notice from your taskbar?

I just want to let you know that if you continue to respond in super short posts, you will not earn anything here If you want to actually make money from Mylot you're going to have to start posting high quality discussions/responses. One word responses like this (that really have nothing to do with the discussions) will earn you zip and may get you reported (I'm not reporting you)...but people don't like useless responses taking up room on their discussions! Welcome to mylot.

Hi Lily. I like your last line. After all you said about the response, you still managed to welcome artmuller2003.

Hard to say not knowing the other site you had open but I would suspect it may have been something on someone's Facebook page. Some people set audio to automatically load and play when you go to their page. I've also had audio pop up and start well after I went on a site because it sometimes takes a while to load before it starts to play. Something else weird that happened to me recently. I went to a site that took a while for the audio to load and when it started playing, I closed the tab, leaving that site. The sound continued to play though. Usually, as soon as you leave the site, the audio stops, but not this time. 20 or 30 seconds went by and it was still playing. I had to close the whole browser to get it to stop. Never had that happen before so I'm wondering if they came up with some sort of code that buffers audio onto your hard-drive or somehow into the browser or something. It seems like they come up with new ways to annoy computer users all the time...

I was not on anyone's Facebook page, I was just at the home page. And I scrolled all down it, so I would have seen it if it was playing anywhere. The third site was probably another writing one, it wasn't one that would have a video playing. I checked all three sites for anything that would be playing it, nothing. I've had that happen to me before to, when the sound keeps playing after the site was left. But I've never had a phantom movie audio just start playing on my computer. Can anyone say, ghost in the machine? lol

Would be helpful to know what the movie was possibly, are any of your pages colinked with Utube? That is the first thing that comes to mind...

No I haven't uploaded anything to youtube--and I watched the video and it isn't really clear. So I'm not sure anyone would be able to tell what movie it was! Boo! lol

You could always through it out the window. Works for me :) Seriously I find that with 3 sites I consistently get cruddy, strange things going on with my computer...mylot, bukisa and xomba...With any of these sites, I'm not surprised if my computer melts into cyper oblivion.

LOL! I can't do that because I'd have to buy a new computer (which I can't afford atm) because I have an online college class! I would faaaail lol. I've never had this kind of problem when I had multiple sites up...sometimes I have MORE than 3! And something like this never happened before! It's strange lol

I am not a member of Facebook, but recently friends of mine who do have accounts were discussing videos sent to them or links posted on their wall that looked suspicious. These apparently were sent by friends who, when checked, had not sent anything. My friends had not opened the link, but another user they knew did, and said it knocked him off Facebook. Like I said, I am not a Facebooker and not sure if my response has any relevance, but when you said 'Facebook' and 'movie', it reminded me of that conversation.

i had some interesting things happen with having Facebook and myLot open about an hr. and a half ago myself. Makes me wonder what was up. Had to hit the power button as nothing else would work and took me awhile to get my Computer back up as well. So you are not the only one.

I've had that happen to me before. I don't know what it is, but my theories are that someone has hacked a site, and/or implanted some kind of virus. Just to be safe, update and run your virus software.

That does sound strange. I have had things like that happen in the past and it turned out to be a pop out window that had opened without me realising it and had started in the background. I know that you had 3 sites open, but were they just separate tabs in the same browser? Did you check to make sure that there was not another browser open on the tool bar at the bottom of the screen? I am guessing that you probably would have noticed if there was as it would have been easy to see. Sometimes movies can take a while to load so it might have been a pop up from some page that you viewed earlier. Could have even been from someone's myLot profile maybe? Weird!

I was wondering if someone else in your house was watching the same video in your television. I read somewhere that computer get interference from televisions and other computers, cellphone, etc. It may be a matter of frequencies getting mixed up. Had that happen to me one time. You could hear the audio but there's no display. At times if you plug in headphones FM music starts playing. That also happened to me. Try asking people in your house. Maybe this answers the big mystery. I hope it helps.
