Hi dear I have the habit of keeping my hair oily since childhood. I don’t like dry hair, I will shampoo my hair once in a week so only one day my hair will remain dry. I am using coconut oil, my mother used to prepare coconut oil by adding medicinal plants in it which helps to grow hair. (I never used shampoo that time instead I used some plants leaves to remove the dirt from hair). Now she is no more and I am taking some oil from the ayurvedic shop near to my place and using shampoo too.

Hi sree Even I apply oil either on alternate days or little oil daily and take oil bath on sunday. If I keep my hair dry, after sometime I will develop headache and so I will apply little oil and i will prepare at home with some herbs and coconut oil like your mother.

take a handful of bhringaraj leaves, brahmi leaves, tulasi, neem, hibiscus, ponnan ganni, (botanical name is Alternanthera sessilis), fresh amla fruits, curry leaves, henna leaves, add some water and make it a paste add more coconut oil and less gingelly oil to this paste and boil it in a medium flame. After some time the paste forms into a black crispy crusts with clear oil floating on the top. remove from the fire and strain, cool and keep in a bottle. If you want you can add more coconut oil. Apply this oil in the scalp every day or alternative days.

Hi shalome I heard that amla is good for hair besides eyes. Even I prepare hair oil with amla, bhringaraj, brahmi and some other herbs at home only. How did you feel after starting applying this hair oil? Did your hair stopped falling and started growing lusturous and bounsy hairs so that I will give a try for it

Hi yugasinigaru Really I envy you, for you need not repent for hair falling like me. And need not go in search of any hair oil and no question of dandruff. For me after taking headbath, drying the hair is a problem if case i need to rush to some place in a hurry. Did you ever repent for having bald, my friend? or you are happy with it?

Dont feel bad about your bald hair. As far as I am concerned ones heart should be good, kind, generous, with noble deeds, good gestures and thoughts which you have all. People likes you and respects you. Then what makes the difference if you have hair on the head or bald

Hello my friend vathsala30 Ji, I remember, in South India, people do apply oil, all over their body, before bathing, it is known as even oil bath, before real bath, but tehn they give little time gap. Niether me nor my hubby applies oil before bath, but we do apply oil in hairs only after bath and keeping hands, feet, face during winter reserved as skin gets dry in winter. It all depends upon one's skin. May God bless You and have a great time.

Hello my friend vathsala30 Ji, So nice of you for your quick, immediate and positive favourable comments. Even todaqy I only look forv Sika-kai for washing my hairs ceremoniallyon weekly basis, that is Sunday, habit formed ages together by mother for both of my sisters and me, as it used to be non-school day. We used to sit in sun to get our hairs dried up, as there were no hair dryers in those days. I am very much tghankful to take me those days, which can never be simulate. May God bless You and have a great time.

Yes. In some house holds, people do apply coconut oil in summer or mustard oil in winter before bath as oil massage. It will keep our skin soft and smooth in both the season. Once in a week we used to apply gingelly oil to our hair and body to keep it cool and wait for some time and wash it with sika kai powder. This makes our hair clean and since it is natural we can avoid chemical side effects that occurs through shampoo

Hello MaygodblessuJi Yes. Even now I wash my hair with shikakai powder only and very rarely i use shampoo. I mix green gram, dried flowers with good fragrance, little rice, dried amla fenugreek seeds, dried henna leaves and hibiscus and curry leaves and reeta skin to shikakai pods and make a powder in the flour mill. Weekly once i apply sesame oil to my hairs massage it and wait for 30 minutes and wash it with home made shikakai powder. This leaves my hair soft and silky and hibiscus acts like conditioner.

I like to have good Oil massage to my hairs, as specially when it is given by my sister. I used to have it. On regular basis, one of my friend suggested me to apply hair oil before we shampoo it, by doing this the harshness of the shampoo reduces. I am doing it just for her sake, I don't know whether it is working with my hairs or not but I am just doing as she suggested!!!!

hi esjosh While massaging your hair, try with luke warm oil, you feel relief and it also helps to get good sleep for the people who will get disturbed sleep. I think your dear sister is expert in giving oil massage. Is she running any beauty salon or just like that she will massage your hair? I will apply a paste of hibiscus, shoe flower and mehendi (lazonia) leaves in my head wait for 30 minutes and wash it with sikakai powder. I do not use shampoo as it helps in greying the hair fast. Mehendi is nothing but henna. it turns the grey hair into dark. But we should not keep in the for long

Hi Vathsala! What a simple but quite interesting question. . I liked your question very much. Full marks to you. You see many people do not apply oil to their heads, as they fell that it won't make any affect and with dry hair they would look more smart. However, I feel applying oil is essential, if not everyday, every alternate days or twice a week, else our hair will get ruined and spoiled. As far as I am concerned, I regualarly apply oil to my hair and in case I do not apply, I feel that something is missing. I know that when I do not apply oil, my friends would say that you are looking better/smarter.........lol! However, I feel that for me care of my hair is more important than looking smarter. Have a great day! Deepak

You see if full marks means 100 out of 100 than it is better than distinction. I understand that distinction is less than the full marks.............lol!

Hi deepak Thanks for your compliments and the marks given to me. But I am sad for getting only the full marks and not the distinction I have seen many people keeping their hair dry always thinking that it is a fashion. But later on they will suffer from dandruff and its related skin problems. For me I can not keep my hair dry for a longer period lest i will develop headache. So regularly I will apply little coconut oil with herbal essence which I prepared at home

You are right. If we keep applying oil to our head every day, then it will become too much greasy and oilly. Even I apply oil in the alternate days only and take a head bath once in a week

Hi, vathsala30. I used to apply baby oil to my scalp and my kids hair one time. I just normally use grease or a hair formula that moisturizes our scalps.

Hi cream It is good that you use hair fomula to moisturize your hair. But I use coconut oil to my scalp and massage it every alternate day with my finger tips in circular and anti clockwise movements to improve the blood circulation and prevention of the fall of hairs. Now it is working wonders and only little hair is falling say the size of a peanut. I am happy about it.

I don't put anything in my hair when I am getting ready to take a bath. I wash my hair and use a good conditioner so my hair doesn't get knots in it because my hair is so long. But I have put styling gel or mousse in my hair then style it then spray it with a touch of hair spray but that is it.

Now that is very true I never thought of it that way. I need to do that to my hair then at least once a week to keep my hair healthier looking. I need to look for something for my hair like that. It also could help prevent split ends to. Thank you for the tips.

But if you does not put apply any hair oil atleast once in a week, will it be normal, does it not become rough? So long it is hale and healthy, then it is ok. But we need to give a good nourishing to the scalp. Give a good hair oil massage once in a week. So that the roots will become strong and healthy and prevents the hair from falling and helps to grow

Hi ank It is long time since we meet. How are you? Coconut oil if pure is very good for hair and no need to use any hair oil. For headlice neem oil is good. Just apply in the hair wait for 30 minutes and wash the hair. every alternate day for two days. and repeat this process after one week for the nit to become lice and perish. If tulasi is available in your place, apply a paste of tulasi and black pepper (miriyalu) and wait for 30 minutes and wash. This is what we do

i used oil sometimes before i take a bath to make it smooth as it serves as conditioner actually its more better than those conditioner that we use after shampoo. i just let my hair dry and i hate to put those creams into my hair, i feel them like messy.

Hi homeshoppers I think you are doing the right thing by applying the oil before taking a bath and even we will do the same thing. Yes creams are really messy and I too do not like to apply them. After washing the hair, I allow them to dry naturally by letting them loose. Even I do not use shampoos, instead i will use either reetha fruit which is a natural degreaser for hair, and shikakai powder to wash the hair.

Hi dilipmiester Just like you, I will also leave the hair dry whenever I wash my hair. What your mom feels is true. Even in my house, elderly people say that once in a week we must do oil massage to the hair and leave it for 30 minutes then wash off the hair with shika kai powder and hibiscus paste. While applying oil to the hair, we will give oil massage to the body also to remove excess heat and keep the skin smooth and free from skin disease. My sons use brylcream and also a hair gel. But me and hubby use coconut oil mixed with home made herbal hair oil.

I apply warm coconut oil with few drops of lemon juice several hours before washing my hair.I prefer keeping it overnight.I dont use styling gels ,i am blessed with naturally straight hair that i loose open on occasions. On the periods of bad hair days i consider using Loreal Everstrong Reconstruct Shampoo and Conditioner with Deep Replenishing Masque.

Hi julia You are doing the right thing by applying warm coconut oil with lime juice. My friend applies eggwhite every week to the root of the hair, wait for 30 minutes and then wash the hair with shikakai powder. her hair is really looks like black serpent and make us envy. So thick, long and black. Since we are pure vegetarians, we do not buy egg. So I prepare my own herbal hair oil and apply it every day and once in a week apply a paste of henna leaves, hibiscus leaves and curry leave, fresh coconut and wait for 30 minutes and wash the hair with shikakai powder.I do not use shampoo as the chemical contents in it spoil the hair over a period of time and since shikakai or reeta fruit are natural products and do not have any side effects, i will use them only. You are so lucky to be blessed with naturally straight hair.

I prefer aurvedic hair oil or navarathana thailam. They are good for cooling head and also good at keeping hair good. I think head massages are good head and also good for health. A person can get good sleep after a good head massage. Here in our places some barbar shops have navarathana thailam for head massages and some has perfumed cooling hair oils and they charge extra for good head massages.

I also do not know if contains chemicals or herbs, but they had been there for lots of years and lots of people are using it. Now a days barbers are getting additional income with the head massage and people are getting relaxation after some stress. Yogirash is another hair oil with herbal contents that relax the head.

I agree with you ajithlal, I have seen in some barbar shops and also in some beauty parlours, that they will offer hair massage service. Navarathna thailam is cooling no doubt but we cant prove that it contains natural herbs and no chemicals.

I like to apply oil on hair once in a while. I apply coconut oil to hair. I apply mostly in the evening and wash hair with water, but not shampoo after two or three hours. I will wash the hair with shampoo two days after applying shampoo. Application of oil helps to keep the head cool. It is very important for me as I live in a place which is very hot almost throughout the year.

Hi daliaj You are right. Application of the oil on hair helps to keep the head cool and also prevent the scalp from drying and forming dandruff. Dandruff causes falling of hair and if not treated in time causes skin disease.

Hi deepa If you do not apply oil daily, then your scalp will become dry and there is a chance of formation of dandruff and that provokes hair falling and also leads to skin disease. Atlease apply a little daily and wash your hair two times a week
