Shoes - How Many Pair of Shoes do You Own?

I just returned from shopping and bought 3 pair of shoes. Ordinarily I would think this is a good thing. However, when I got ready to put them in the closet I realize I just don't have room for another pair of shoes. I've counted. I have 86 pair of shoes. Some of them I haven't worn in years. Now I need to get rid of some, but it is just hard for me to part with shoes. How many pair of shoes do you own? How often do you clean out your shoe closet?

Hi there! you're not alone.. :D There are times when i go shopping and i cant decide which pair of shoes to buy, i end up buying all. I have no idea how many pairs i have.. I lost count already! haha I usually clean my shoe closet every other week coz they get piled up and messy specially when im a little busy. Whenenever i do clean my closet I try to separate those that I still use from those that i dont. Some of them end up in the trash bin while some of them i give away as hand-me-downs to relatives or friends if we have the same size. :D

Ahh, a kindred spirit. Do you also end up buying the same shoe in different colors. I find if I like a shoe, I will buy it in more than one color.

In college we had so little space, I never seemed to have enough shoes. I think perhaps that is another reason why I over compensate now. Also wearing the same shoes every day is just boring. It can be compared to eating rice every day. Just too too boring.

Hello, well I can say that we don't have a shoe closet at our place. We put our shoes in this little hallway that we have that goes to nothing. I have in deed counted my shoes, my hubby's and my children shoes before. For me I use to have 2 pairs one for outside only and one for inside only. What it was is that when I get a new pair I use the ones that I used for all over just for inside only and then the new ones I buy is used for outside only. When I feel it is time for me to buy a new pair I will throw the house only ones away. So there for I am not wasting money. My hubby has 3 pairs, one good pair of cowboy boots, one pair of work shoes, and one pair of winter/hunting boots. Now for my children they have 2 pairs of winter boots and 2 pairs of shoes. Then when it comes to summer they have one pair for summer and one pair of sandals. I have to say that 86 pairs of shoes is just insane. Did you really wear them all at least once? Did you know that if you don't want to part with them then you could just give them to family members or friends so that you know that they are being taken well care of. Well I hope that you figure out what you are going to do with all those shoes. Happy Mylotting

I have boxed up so far 34 pair of shoes. I'm donating them to Women in Distress. I was going to try to send them to the Haiti relief effort, but I seriously doubt the people in Haiti need 4" stilletos.

Well that is great that you are donating some of them. LOL I do agree with you though with Haiti's may not want those kind of shoes. I think you are doing a great thing because those will help women that could use them. Keep up the great work. Happy Mylotting

If I had to goes. Around 3 or 4. I usually use one most of the year with another one for special cases like parties or something like that. And another one for summer and winter. I'm just a simple guy and I don't see any point in buying any more shoes until those are broken. It would just look like a waste of money to me unless I would really need them which obviously isn't the case.

Life is so much simpler when you are a man. Living with you will be easy for a significant other. More room in the closet for her shoes.

Hi teamrose, I like buying shoes. I have over 80 pairs of shoes but I have not counted the exact number of them. When I was working, I had over 120 pairs. I keep updating my closet. My husband could not stop me buying shoes, but he requests me to give the same number of shoes to others when I have bought new ones. However, it is hard to do so. I bought 8 pairs of boots and 3 pairs of high heels in the last 8 weeks. I usually buy leather shoes that with good quality. Buying is always faster than giving. As a result, shoes are everywhere now in my apartment. ha ha...... agonyaunt69 (1:51am 4 Feb 2010, Hong Kong time)

You have no idea how good it makes me feel knowing there are others out there like me. Shoes are therapy. Buying is a lot easier than giving away. It is like giving away your children.

I love how you refer to some of your shoes are the important one. It is true, some shoes are a staple like the perfect pair of jeans or that must have black dress.

Slippers, that is another category I didn't add. Although again I did count them in my count. Now that sandals, boots and slippers are included, I really don't have that many pair.

At the moment, I have seven pairs of shoes and trainers. When a pair starts looking all worn-out or I no longer really wear them any more, I will usually get rid of them rather than hoarding them on my shoe-rack.

Now that I have boxed up 34 pair I'm trying to resist filling the small space left with more shoes. Also, I don't have much money these days so more shoes are not in the picture for a long long time.

Well I counted the sandals in with the shoes. So if we can take off sandals, I don't have nearly as many pairs of shoes. Is this a sign it's okay to shoe shop? Seriously, I counted shoes, boots, sandals and sneakers.

Lucky you! Me? I only have 2 pairs of shoes, a pair of rubber shoes and a heeled one. Maybe, its your passion to have many pairs of shoes. I'm not a shoe fanatic. I only buy a new one if the ones I'm using gets torn or worn out. And besides, my budget is limited so that's why.

Wow, you're such a shoe collector. It's amazing knowing that you have like 86 pair of shoes. Well, I only have 10 pair of shoes. And i don't clean my shoe closet. It's my husband who does the cleaning all the time because I was so tired already from work. My husband just stays at home. So he does all the cleaning stuff.

Oh a house husband. How does that work for you? Was that the plan when you first got married or did circumstances just happen to make it that way? So many modern women have stay at home hubbies these days. I'm glad he pampers you and does all the house chores. Enjoy your shoes.

i am in canada and we have pretty much two seasons here, winter and summer. it gets really cold in the winter and hot in the summer so of course many types of shoes are needed. i have about 3 pairs of boots, a pair of running shoes, a 3 pairs of winter shoes and about 10 pairs of summer shoes (keeping in mind that i never pay over $10- for shoes and some are hand me downs) that isnt too bad.

That sounds like a reasonable amount. Can you believe I have 4 pair of boots and it never gets that cold in Florida. However, I keep them in case I visit Chicago.

If you want to get rid of some shoes, the Salvation Army will be happy to have them. Keep the receipt you get and you can take it off your taxes next year as a charitable contribution! Always keep receipts as proof and photos if you can, too. I have two pairs of shoes and a pair of flip-flops. The tennis shoes are old and holey and should be thrown away. My others I bought for work and they are just ordinary black shoes, no heels, and the soles are starting to peel off. I really need a new pair of shoes! I hate shopping for them, though, because I have flat feet and I can't wear pretty shoes, just those ugly clodhoppers.

I definitely have to coordinate my shoes with my clothes. Sometimes it takes longer to decide what shoes to wear than dress.

Why do we do it. It's like a shoe disease. When I see pretty shoes, I have to have them. Then I don't get occasions to wear them.

I have just one.Since I am at home I din't need much but yet planning to buy ne more for winter season. But my husband have four pairs of shoes and still he wants more. Two different formal shoes for office wears and two different casual ones. He always have to undergo a great confusion when ever he goes out to decide which pair he should wear that day. Its a great issue in our house.

I would say that I own about 45 pairs of shoes, I will say for a guy thats alot of shoes to have especially when most of them are either timberlands, or polo boots and my air force ones are the absolute favorite, i would clean out my shoe closet every month or two and then I would go back and buy more shoes the next day..lol

Ahh, but at least you have enough strength to clean out your shoe closet regularly. That is a very good habit to get into.
