Sometimes a husband and wife can save money on their taxes, if they are not married. Would you be willing to divorce your husband or wife to save taxes in one year and then remarry in the next year? Or would you just pay the difference in taxes and stay married?

I thought divorce was expensive? Or it's only expensive if you're really divorcing and fighting over your properties? Anyway I think that would not be practical at all. But what can I say some marry for money. It isn't impossible that some could divorce for money:) Times are really tough right now if people are willing to divorce for tax savings.

...Hi abitcurious. Like the name "o). In the US, there are some couples who are in a situation where the savings in taxes for them is pretty substantial if they are divorced at the end of the tax year. So they get a simple divorce, no fighting, it is all for practical purposes. Don't ask me why they don't file "married filing separately", but they divorce. So be it, and then they remarry. Strange. Thanks for your response. Take care.

...Hi miranda521, It sounds as if you know of this practice in China as well. I know I read about this some time ago, I don't have any idea how wide spread the practice is here in the US, but I just know that people do this to avoid paying taxes and to save money paying taxes. It is something that is legal, I guess. Thanks for your reply, take it easy. Welcome to the ranch, it is a fun place to hang out.
