giving the best response award

I have a discussion that collected over thirty responses and now I am trying to give the best response award. It's so hard to do, I would like to give several for many well thought out responses. Sometimes I give it to the newest mylotter just to encourage them, but this time I am going to give it to the one who gave an totally different point of view. What would you do?

If you can't decide then don't give it just yet, wait a day or so or even a week and then have another look to see if any of the responses then stand out as being worthy of giving the best response.
Personally I have several older discussions I haven't given a best response to because either I still can't decide on which one to give it to or quite simply there isn't a response I think deserves it.

It is hard to choose them when you have so many and there are a few good responses but I agree with you as I would do the same
Give it to the Person with the different point of view if you think that Person has given a good one then they deserve the best response

Hi SavyPat, I know how hard this is as i have experienced that as well, here on MyLot and it isn't easy once we have over say 10-15 good responses.
I go with my gut feeling. What I felt when I first read the response. When there gets to be several that wowed me, it gets tougher indeed. So what I do next is look at each one and more to the one that answered my question precisely, without leaving anything out, or commented on the discussion as a whole. I also look for good grammar as I believe that is all part of the best response. I don't go by how long the person has been a member, no.
Overall, like I said, I go with gut feeling, regardless.
Although there can be a response that wows but has left something out. Therefore i wont mark it best response.
I don't really have a strategy. All I know is that it can be rather difficult to choose sometimes and often have wished I could choose more than one for this reward.

It is a tough one at times! I’ve faced the same predicament and I have pondered for a long time. I eventually do manage to narrow it down to one best response but if your were to ask me what I look for in a BR I probably wouldn’t be able to tell you. It is usually something unique about one particular answer that does it for me; it does not have to be articulate or brilliantly written, just original and unique.

Actually I don't really give a BR to every discussion I make. Some responses just really strike me and that's the only time I do. You can only give a BR to one person so I make it a point that the person who got it really deserved it.

I have the same problem myself. It would be nice if we could give more than one best response, but since we can give only one, then I want to make sure that I do it right and give it to the one who deserves it. I have to read and reread posts to make sure I give it to the one that is the best. I have some discussions that I haven't given best response to as of yet. I keep putting it off, and I will have to do it one of these days. There are a couple that are still getting responses, so I will wiat until I feel that they won't get anymore than go award it. It is just an ego booster anyway, on both sides. I do enjoy giving the best response, but I don't give it to soon, as mylot says to wait at least a week, and I will wait much longer than that, sometimes months. There is no set time to give it, once a week has gone by. Good luck to you and happy mylotting.

Hey, savypat!
Hmm, what I would probably do in this situation of dilemma would be to pick one response that you think is most worthy of the best response, and for the others that you think were good candidates for best reponse, just drop by a message or comment to them to praise them and tell them that you wanted to give them a best response if you could give it to multiple people. I'm sure a small gesture like that will be more than enough to encourage them and maybe even make their day. Besides, I'm sure no one will blame you for not giving them a best response, will they?

Probably I always like to give the best response to all of the persons who give some meaningful response to my discussion.. But mylot had just allowed to give only one best response..
So, I will give best response only to the reply which I think best. For some discussions, I don't give because I think that they are not upto my standards.

I too share your dilemma, savypat. In many discussions I have created throughout my time, I have had difficulty awarding a MyLotter with the "best response" reward, as I have felt that multiple responses are worthy of such an offer.
Maybe, if a discussion exceeds a page or two, then MyLot should provide an option to hand out up to three different "best response" rewards

Hi, Savy.
It's realy hard to chose the best response when you receive big number of responses and most of them are good. BTW chosing the BR can be hard even if you have only two or three responses - if all of them are really good, then you will be confused - which one to choose.
I also have a discussions where I didn't mark yet the best response, because I got several best responses and it's not easy to chose only one...

Give it to the one who makes a lot of sense and offers encouragement to the readers. The world is already cruel and dark as it is. We need more and more people who can shed light on things and who can give hope. Don't feel guilty for those who didn't win. If that does not ease your feelings, why don't you give consolation prizes for those who came close to winning. That will inspire them to do even better. Good luck!

I agree that is sometimes difficult (if not wellnigh impossible) to choose a Best Response. If I encounter a problem like this, I usually take the easy way out and do a round robin of the people who very often are among the 'qualifiers'.
It's worth remembering, however, what GoAskAlice has said - that Best Responses are really nothing more than 'Boasting Rights'. What counts for more (in terms of earnings, anyway) is probably to receive a positive vote for a response.

It is not easy to pick who to award the BR especially when you have few pages of responses. It can be someone who is so good but if that one person has been a regular responder and all his responses are well presented I find it absurd to give that person the best response all the time even though he has what it takes to earn a br. So I will go for the next best one to be fair to all.

Hey pat! It's very simple! It's you discussion and it's your
choice, your decison! I hate having to pick a BR especially
when I have some really big discussion responses! It only makes
it more difficult and drives me crazy! How do you pick just
one? Sometimes I like to also give the BR to a newbie for the
same reason! But, it is still a really tough decision! But,
again, your discussion, your decison! Good Luck!

I'm a new user here so it's dificult for me to say what I would do in such a situation..anyway I think there should an answer you like more then others. O maybe you should just leave it the way it is and don't give the best response award at all this time.
