An answer I was looking for

I have run across the question of why pray for world peace, when this is not going to happen. Well the answer finally showed up, the reason we need to pray or send positive energy is because it may help just one person who is planning extreme destruction stop. If it stops one bomber, or one planer of a 911 type of insident isn't it worth any effort we can make to make the world a little bit safer? The article went on to point out several things that had been stopped before they got past the planning stages that would have been very dangerous to the world. Did our prayers stop them? I don't know but I do know something did. And what about all the times a person or group changed their minds. We will never know, I guess this is where faith comes into it. Does this change anyone's mind or make those who pray feel any more justified? Let me know.

There's a song that goes: It is better to light just one little candle.... Your discussion kind of reminded me of it. You are totally right. I guess the "World Peace" said in every Miss Universe Pageant finally has a good use after all. ODn't you think?

I do believe in prayer but there have been times when it seemed that the Universe or God was going to do what was destined anyway and to change it even through prayer seemed futile and that is my question a lot of the time; if everything is either meant to be or not, in other words predetermined what is the point of praying to change it? Maybe a better way would be to pray for the strength to cope or the ability to help.

I always pray for strength and guidence. The wider you can send your energy the better, just know that the prayer joins with many others.

I've always had trouble with "Faith!" My specific problem is Blind Faith, or as my dictionary defines it, "Belief that is not based on Proof." Its seems to me that any belief system is skating on thin ice if its not proof based. Prayer to me, is simply giving thanks for blessings received. I try to carry this thankfulness in my heart at all times.

So many things are found to be true that use to only be belief that was unproven. I guess you would say I believe in common sense and logic, but even that is faulty, because those things are based on present knowledge. As a young person my most travelled world was science fiction and fantasy. So many things are believable to me and many have been proven, parallel universe is one I like best the prove is on the way for that one. So energy circulation throughout the world is an easy faith for me.

Hi savypat, That is the difference between being positive and being negative. I believe that world peace will happen. I may not see it in this lifetime but than I may.I believe in positive prayer and believe that it has a great effect on the world around us. The person who says it's not going to happen is actually helping to prevent world peace. True prayer is not a plea to some superman in the sky but the realization that God is within each and everyone of us and that we are all one with each other and with God. Such positive prayer is that which can move mountains. I hope you will continue to unite with others in this prayer for world peace. Blessings.

I have always projected that the role of an individual cannot be under estimated. Just one person doing it which means all are doing it. Imagine the effect of it all whatever be it!

Of course this then brings up the other side of the argument, what are we doing with all our violence in our entertainment. If the positive can travel so can the negative. Thanks

Praying...whom are you praying to help ? And yeah christianism...a religion created as an idea, an idea for the interests of a grup of people.Nowdays like in the past the enemy is "countries with different religions"...why do they fight for ? power and domination like they have always done. Why do you pray ? you tell me.

This is why I call it sending positive energy, I am not in charge, I just visulize light invading the whole world. My faith does not include a request for something, because that would me I felt that I could see all the changes such a thing would bring. Do I feel, like some Jews are saying that the 6,000,000 Jews killed in world war two were martyrs needed for the Jews to return to the promised land. No I feel that this is just an explaination to allow them to live with that horror. Do I feel that there is a God, (person) somewhere who is in charge of humanity? No, again a Godhead is a comfort to humans who have really no control in what happens to them. But we are just learning about energy and we now know that all life forms have this. So for me it is not to far a reach for me to believe that if I am conscious of the positive energy then I can increase taht influence in some small way. Is this something you can consider? Thanks

I never thought of it that way, to tell you the truth. I guess that's a very good reason to pray for peace. I heard someone discussing the "12'ers" in the Middle East yesterday. These people believe when the 12th Mullah is in charge, their "armageddon" will come and they are actively trying to goad the world into conflicts and war. I guess praying could help foil these people.

There is really no way to tell, but so what? It is such a little effort on your part and maybe together we can move toward peace.

Same idea, slightly different topic. What difference does it make if one person practices an act of kindness. Or makes some small change in their own life that reduces the amount of trash going into a landfill. Or spends 3 hours a week helping their favorite charity. Maybe not so much, but if a lot of people do it, we can "be the change"...

If you need a reason to be kind, giving and helping then don't look for the big changes, just accept the small ones. A smile on a stranger's face, a door held open or other nice things done which were not expected. The biggest land slide starts when one small rock moves.

I always think that hard work and perseverance will never leave without giving the reward. The same idea will happen here.. No prayer will be unanswered if it is prayed with whole hearted.

I believe that prayer is powerful and miracles can happen when we believe. You said that we need to exert positive energy right? that's waht we do when we are praying we are longing for peace and peace a good thing right? Some mylotters said that prayers can be answered only if we prayed it with sincerity and a strongly agree with them.

I think prayer is just a variation of a personal mantra. The more you believe that you're actually doing something positive with prayer the more you act like you could act upon something with more confidence. For Catholics for example, after confession, you are sure to get a bunch of prayers to pray before sins are absolved. Doing those prayers really makes you think that you have done your part in recognizing your errors. One prayer short and you'd still feel guilty. Dan Brown's novel, Lost Symbol's take on a branch of science about our thoughts making an impact on the world offers a myriad of possibilities. It's a variation of "I think therefore I am." I think it's noetic science, but I'm not sure. I read it a couple months ago.
