when i see the beggars moving around the streets i really feel very sorry for them. They certainly look disadvantaged. But are they really worth our sympathy??are the using our money on drugs?i can't figure this out.So tough to decide who really needs help and who is playing with us.

Hello, I don't think one should give alms unless he seriously desires to. And there is no need to judge whether these people are worthy or not. We should think that we have enough to spare and they have nothing at all. If we start judging and analyzing whether this beggar is going to spend it on good purpose we certainly go beyond our right and limit and finally end up in complicating the whole thing. While helping beggars we should think that we are just being a medium of God's blessings. We are actually serving God's purpose by helping them. We should leave the rest in His hand and stop worrying our heads off. Take care God bless you

in my country, there are tons of beggers. I often give money to them, when i have some change with me.But seldom I don't give money also because i look at the condition of the begger before i give money. If in my opinion the begger is still capable of dealing with his life (or in other words healthy),i usually don't give money to him. But if the begger is handicapped in some way,i almost always give something. But still,it depends on my condition too.

me personally i do not give money to beggars unles they have ripped clothes and none if any personal belongs as then it shows that they have been kicked out and had to give everythin up to survive.

I never give to beggars. Many of them find that to be the easy way out for a living. As you said they may not use that money for the purpose it is meant. Also there are government run institutions that take care of beggars and rehabilitate them.

The best way to solve this problem is to give them food or drinks. If they take it then they're either really want money for food, or they just want some free food. If it's just for the food, you still didn't help them get their next hit, so you help them anyways.

I work with the homeless and its a job. A lot of them do have substance abuse issues and are begging for money to support those habits. Most communities have homeless services in place: soup kitchens, drop-in day centers, emergency shelter and the like. If you would like to help, then the best thing to do is donate or volunteer to/with a homeless service provider - let the pros handle it. That way you know your money is being used for the right purpose and you are not putting yourself at any kind of risk. United Way, Salvation Army, etc. are big homeless service providers in most large cities. Sad as it is, its winter time so shelters fill up quick, resources are limited so everyone might not get fed... plus for some of the like die hard homeless this is a lifestyle choice - they don't want to go into shelter, not get warm or eat. In the winter time, since I know it can be difficult to find services due the demand, I have on occasion given someone a meal. If I just came out the store I might give them something I just purchased, a pack of hot dogs and some bread; but I never give cash.
