Do you enjoy the newer movies being released? Or do you find that the older movies you have seen or go back and watch again are better and more interesting? Which ones hold your attention, or is there not much difference?

I think I like the new movies more, because the storyline for movies today are more creative and the special effects are really good as well.

...Hi there donsky, The newer movies are definitely filled with more special effects, even 3-D, which takes you into another dimension. The computers are being used much more now naturally, which makes the movies so much more dramatic on the screen. Now when you see a movie, you feel like you are inside the movie scene with the actors. It is very life like. Thanks for your response.

...Hi again donsky, That also saves time. I wonder if the cartoonists miss doing their work by hand? Take it easy.

It depends. If it's a classic movie that don't require CGI then i prefer the old movies. But if it's a science fiction or any movie that's been enhanced by CGI then i go for the newer movies. With the advancement of computer graphics, you can hardly differentiate the computer generated image against the real back grounds which make the movie more entertaining. Same goes with the sound system. there's really a big difference as far as the entire movie experience when you compare movies made between the 80's and the 90's.

...Hi ybong007, The most interesting computer generated imaging I have been aware of was with Mel Gibson, in the movie The Patriot. When he went to war and thousands of soldiers were out on the field fighting each other, the entire thing was computer generated, which I thought was amazing. It seriously looked as though it was actually happening, as they were filming. I am sure a lot more goes on that we are not aware of, but that was quite interesting. The music in some films enhances the movie, other sound tracks are distracting. It takes a certain deft of knowledge and experience to blend the background music with the action on the screen. When it's done well, you don't even notice, done badly, you want to turn the sound down. Take care. Thanks for your response.

...Hey ybong, good point about both of those movies. Also the newest hit Avatar is it called? That has special effects on top of special effects. The movie Patriot had a behind the scenes look on one of the cable channels, and they basically showed how they developed the war scene on the field. They had, I think four lines of warriors on both sides, and the computer duplicated the four lines, one set after another, until there were thousands of the same soldiers there, but no one could tell that it was all an illusion. They probably had the money in the budget, but wanted to save some if they could. Take care.

Producers spend as much on CGI as they do on the regular scenes. One of the reasons why computer generated images looks real is the fact that millions are spent to develop each scene to be true to life as possible.

It depends. If I want to zone out and write or just vegetate, I'll put an old standby movie in the DVD player. My favorite movies require no thought. They're just familiar and comfortable like the sweatpants you should throw out but don't. New movies require thought and attention, but I like them. For me, it depends on what mood I'm in.

...Hi cripfemme, Now that's an interesting take on the subject. Maybe that is why I like to watch the same movie over and over again. I used to go to the movies more than I do now, but I would always watch the movie twice. First for entertainment and then to analyze it. I love movies, especially ones with good story lines. Some of the older ones are better to me than recent ones which appear to be just thrown on the screen. Thanks for your interesting response. Take care.

I think I didn't judge the moives frome when they were produced. I like old movies like gone with the wind, tantic, I also like new moive like avatar, hangover. The importent part is the story of the movie, is it type for me! But if they were kind the same I will prefer the newer one, I can more understand what was going on!

...Hi shan0822, I like some of the same movies you do. Gone With the Wind was a great movie, Titanic as well, although knowing it was based on reality, it was hard to watch the scenes of the people going into the water. Really hard to watch, it had beautiful music, and a great cast of characters. I like a good story, I saw a very cute movie called Love Actually, if you can find it, rent it or buy it, you will enjoy it. Many stars are in it, including Emma Thompson. Thanks for your response. Take care.

.....Hi sharlionse, Very interesting perspective. I think the old movies concentrated on happy endings, than realistic endings and outcomes. I don't think many men wound up without the girl in the old movies. Now the happy endings appear boring, so they jest it up, with everybody walking away such as the reality television series Jon and Kate plus Eight. Who would ever think a man would walk out on his eight kids? So real life situations are being given more influence in the movies today than in the past I think. Thanks for your reply. Take care.

I long for old time movies like Breakfast at Tiffanys. Films by Ginger Rogers and Fred Astair. New movies are good as long they have good stories. Meet Joe Black and Ocean's Eleven are my favorites.

....Hi there atv818, Breakfast at Tiffanys is a classic with very talented actors. I really like Ocean's Eleven, which had a lot of my favorite actors in it. It does have a good story line. Some of today's movies make me wonder who puts up the money for such a film that is all blow-ups and crashing cars, better to make a video game out of it. I like the old movies for their style and substance. An English movie caught my attention recently, light fare but interesting. Love Actually, cute movie about different couples going through changes. Catch it on DVD if you can, you might like it, it's a fun movie. Thanks for your response, take it easy.

I was not aware that there were scenes in "the patriot" movie that were enhanced with CGI. I thought it was such a big project that they can afford to come up with such great scenes. But thanks to technology we really can't differentiate between what's real and what's not as far movie scenes are concerned. Movie really are more entertaining nowadays with the help of CGI. I just can't imagine how would Lord of the rings of even Harry Potter would look on screen without the help of CGI.
