Is it just me...

...or does it seem like when Atheists and Christians talk about each other they pretty much say the same things. I was recently watching a video by an Evangelical Christian who said that Atheists were irrational, immoral, and afraid of reality, and you know what, it was the same thing that one of my friends who doesn't believe in god said in regards to Christians (I don't know how they feel about Muslims or those of the Jewish faith). Has anyone else noticed that when people pit themselves against others they both tend to say the same things about each other? Why do you think people do this?

People always think they are the ones that are right and everyone else is wrong. If you ask me, its their EGO talking, not their intellect. They all pass judgment on one another. Fanatic Christians get to me the most as they are taughtright from the Bible. One quote is not to judge others. Fanatic Christians do this all the time, funny how that works. I did and AIDS walk one and towards the end of the walk all these religious people were holding signs pertaining to AIDS and how people with AIDS were going to HELL. One women hissed at me because I looked at her. Like she thought I had know right but whatever. Religions served their purpose and over time have become corrupt. If they were not then why do we have so many different churches.

My aunt is a Christian. She distinguishes between religious folks and Christians by saying Christians follow the tenants of their faith, they do not judge others, religious folks on the other hand ignore the aspects of the Bible when they don't suit their agenda. I thought that was a great distinction because neither she nor my sister violate this rule, and I have never seen either of them get defensive or aggressive when they discuss religion with someone who doesn't believe as they do.

I agree. I consider myself a of Christian principles but have much still to work on. However, I rarely go to church as I feel they have nothing really to teach me. I have a source that I find to be the most logical. Other people still question me but whatever. To each there own I say. These same people say oh, you are playing with fire or you should be werrie about what you read. I believe in things that people think only exist in movies. Why, because I believe there is spiritual ware fare happening on this planet. We just are not in tune yet. There is more than meets the eye.

Because it seems neither group is willing to accept that the other might have a point - as unreasonable as each group feels the other's point is. I have to ask one thing - how can a belief that not everybody shares be REALITY? It is just one belief. I'm not saying it's wrong, but it is independent reality, perceived reality - to the person who holds the belief. It isn't 'blanket reality' so it does not apply to everybody, so that's one thing that understandably annoys both atheists and christians alike. The atheist saying 'you're wrong' and the christian saying 'no, you're wrong'. In my opinion, neither is WRONG. What is wrong about the whole thing is both groups trying to force the other one to see it their way. Both should accept they believe different and leave it as such. I have never understood the whole idea of getting all over people to convert them or make them believe something else than what they believe already. Even if they believe nothing, why try to get them to believe something else? I see no point. It seems arrogant to me. Kinda like 'I think MY way is SO COOL and it's SO COOL that I have to convert you because MY WAY IS BETTER'. Ha. Nothing is better. It's all more of the same. I don't care what you believe, you shouldn't care what I believe. People seem to have a problem not caring lol.

The only time I care what someone else believes is if that belief allows them to exploit, oppress, or harm other people. Other than that I agree, and one of the things that both groups fail to see, or at least seem to ignore, is that only the individual can decide in the end to keep or change their way of thinking. I imagine that for some on both sides the preaching came after they were constantly made to explain to others why they believed as they did. How it ended up as it is now I can't say, but I can imagine this as the start for some folks.

It is interesting that they would have similar "views" even though they actually disagree. As a Christian I acn not prove God same as an atheist would not be able to prove he does not exist. I have chosen to beleive in God because I beleive that something has to be in control. Noone can say what is reality and it is easy for a christian (like myself)to say there must be a God because how would we be here and then an atheist can say there is no God because of all the abd things that happen in the world.

I see this with a lot of folks who differ in their opinion. Its almost as if they are projecting their fears or something on the other party. I think the point you made should pretty much stop all of the arguments between the two groups. Neither group can prove their point to the other, and they shouldn't worry about doing so. They should feel comfortable in what they have chosen to believe, and trust in that so long as it makes sense to them.

Well, I think you get that for any two groups that are on the completely opposite ends of the spectrum in anything. I mean, substitute in politics for religion and Republicans and Democrats in as well, and you get the similar situation. Two groups who argue about everything, yet their arguments about why the other group is wrong is the same. No one will be able to prove anything to someone who has their own belief system. The fact that the arguments sound similar is one of the great ironies of life.

I agree megamatt... your name makes me want to say it over and over again, megamatt, megamatt... sorry, lol. I think this is really the politics of the two perspectives, like they somehow are campaigning for followers instead of just living their lives. Its funny to me because they can't see that they are saying the same things to each other.
