What's the differance between the "free" turbo tax & the deluxe version?

I"m thinking we really don't have a complicated tax situation would the free be better for us or not? We have 2 incomes, some interest, kids, mortgage & property taxes. Any thoughts? As it would save me $26 if I did the free one.

If you itemize your deductions, then I believe you are going to need the deluxe version. We have bought the deluxe version for several years because I do my mother's taxes as well as my sister's and brothers in addition to our own so we more than make it worth our while. This year was the first year that we've personally ever had to itemize our deductions. But, if I'm not mistaken, the free version is for the EZ version only. If you have the deluxe version, the federal return is free but the state will cost depending on what state you are in to E-File.

as far as i know,it's like the difference between a 1040 and a 1040ez. if you don't have a lot of investments or writeoffs to declare, you really don't need the deluxe version.

Can't say forsure, but I did the free H&R block one 2 years in a row. It only charged me to file the state, because my stupid state isn't free. The federal was prepared and filed for free. I had no problems last year, and thus far no problems this year. I'm expecting my refund next Friday.

I've been doing taxes for years and you don't need the delux version according to the information you've given. They always try to get you to upgrade but, unless your tax situation is complicated or you're going to need a lot of help from their support center, you don't need to spend the extra money.

Sometimes the free ones are print only versions - they don't facilitate electronic filing. Check it out and see if that's what makes it free. But if you don't want to file electronically or if the free version still allows you to do so then you're probably fine with saving your $$ and going with the freebie.

I am not sure. I have always had someone like H&R block or someone in an office to prepare my taxes. Sorry I can't answer that
