What is the active ingredent in aspirin? Which were obtained from the plant used to more precisely?

I have never thought about what an aspirin is made of, but some how I think it would probably be a man made chemical rather than from a plant..we do put a lot of trust in our doctors when they tell us to take something without knowing what is in it...
