I'm using soft contact lenses for four years. My eye care practitioner told me to use contact lens for eight hours. But I am using it for some 12 hours. I don't feel any difficulty in that. But I want to know if it gives any side effect in future?

I have never used contact lens before. I would rather use glasses. I have some friends using lens and the way they apply the lens to their eyes makes me goosebumps. =D so, i am afraid to use lens. but the way i see them use lens, they will wear them for a long time. i think it's more than 12 hours. They just take it off when they will go to sleep or when they feel their eyes are itchy. then they will take off the lens and cleaned them with the special liquid.

My friends too getting got scared on seeing the way of applying and removing lens, there is no need to worry of it. It wont create any pain. Even I don't feel that that I am having a lens in my eyes.

Okay! okay! if you do it some five times, you feel there is nothing to worry about it. But the view may scare some people.

it's not the pain that i am scared of. well, of course i do not want it painful but it's not the main reason i do not want to use lens. i know it's not painful. =D i just dun like the view of taking off or putting it back. it's gross... =D

I have worn contact lenses for 40+ years. I started with hard lens and went to extended wear soft lens. I admit it, over the years, I have misused and abused my contacts. I have worn them for far longer periods than recommended. My optician recommends I change my current lens once a week. I have worn them for months without changing them or taking them out. Am I lucky that I have not suffered any problems? Probably, but I keep pushing it. I am not...repeat...NOT advocating you disregard your practitioner's recommendations, but 4 extra hours of wearing contacts does not seem extreme and since you do take them out every day and clean them, I really doubt you will suffer any side effects. The 8 hours was probably recommended for comfort level, but if the extra hours don't bother you, no harm done. Again, I have taken wearing contacts to the extreme and I do not recommend anyone try it at home. (And whatever you do, please don't tell my ophthalmologist! *chuckles*)

i feel lazy to wash lens everyday and I am doing it for once in three days. Its better if you change your lens once a week, atleast twice a week. Prevention is better than cure..!

I think, the doctor said you better not wear contact lencs more than 8 hours every day. I think you need to take it off as soon as you back home, or relax eyes a little bit more. Don't wear it if it not so necessary, and eat more fruit and keep healthy!
